Firefly is the five-room boutique guesthouse perched on the hillside above Britannia Bay that has been Mustique's quiet alternative to The Cotton House since the 1970s. Originally the home of Billy and Pat Mitchell — early Mustique settlers and friends of Princess Margaret — Firefly evolved organically from a private house into a tiny inn run with the sensibility of a friend's beach villa rather than a hotel. There are only five rooms, all in the main house, all looking down through the bougainvillea to the Caribbean and the lights of Britannia Bay at night. The poolside Firefly Bar is one of the two places on Mustique where the residents and the few hotel guests actually meet (the other being Basil's), and the kitchen serves dinner under a thatched roof with views across to St Vincent on the horizon. For honeymooners Firefly is the choice over The Cotton House when the priority is a tinier footprint, a single shared dinner table where the chef cooks one menu, and the kind of place where the manager remembers your name on day two. It books out months ahead precisely because it never adds rooms.

The Heron Suite is the largest and most secluded — its own private terrace with a plunge pool carved into the hillside, a king four-poster, an outdoor shower, and the best Caribbean sunset view from the property. The Hummingbird is the smallest but has the most charm, a romantic single-room cottage with direct pool access. Barbados to Mustique & Welcome
Connection through Barbados (BGI) — Mustique Airways or SVG Air's 50-minute hop in 8-seater Britten-Norman Islander to Mustique airstrip (MQS). Firefly meets you at the strip with the property's Mule (the electric buggy every Mustique guest receives), a 3-minute drive up to the hillside house. Welcome cocktails at the Firefly Bar, settle in, dinner at the single chef's table on the terrace overlooking Britannia Bay.
Macaroni Beach & Britannia Bay
Drive the Mule across the island to Macaroni Beach — the half-mile Atlantic crescent of empty powder sand with a small wooden café. Spend the morning there with a Firefly beach hamper. Afternoon at the Britannia Bay beach immediately below Firefly — the Caribbean side, calm water, easy swim. Sundowners at the Firefly pool deck watching the boats anchor in the bay below.
Tuesday Night at Basil's
Tuesday is Mustique's one big social night — Basil's Bar on the waterfront below Firefly hosts the famous jump-up with live music, the residents come out, and the island's narrow social world spends an evening in one place. Firefly arranges the table booking. Walk down the hill from Firefly to Basil's (5 minutes) and back up the steps after dinner — the only walking commute on Mustique.
Horseback Beach Ride & Pool Day
Morning ride from the Mustique Equestrian Centre — the two-hour beach ride to the north-coast Pasture Bay, a swim with the horses in the sea, and a return through the interior. Afternoon at the Firefly pool — the small cliffside pool is the property's centrepiece and largely empty during midday. Dinner at the chef's single menu (set every night, written that morning, usually fish from the Bequia boats).
Tobago Cays Snorkel Day
Private boat charter south to the Tobago Cays through the Grenadines — Horseshoe Reef and the resident sea turtles are widely regarded as the best snorkel in the southern Caribbean. Firefly arranges the catamaran with lunch on board, stops at Salt Whistle Bay (Mayreau) and Petit Bateau (Tobago Cays), return to Mustique by sundown. A full-day excursion.
Mustique Walk & Final Bar Night
Walk the south end of the island in the morning — the network of bridle paths and Mule tracks connects the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts, and a 90-minute loop covers most of the southern hill (Lagoon Bay, Pasture, Endeavour Bay). Lunch at the Firefly pool, afternoon nap, last sunset cocktails at the Firefly Bar — the one bar where the conversation between guests, owners and a handful of residents is the actual draw.
Final Hill Morning & Departure
A final breakfast on the Heron terrace, last swim in the cliff pool, and the Mule down to the airstrip. The flight to Barbados is a scenic 50-minute hop directly over Bequia and Canouan — the best aerial view of the Grenadines available. Most BGI international onward connections work late afternoon, giving a comfortable buffer.

There is no beach at Firefly — the property is on the hillside above Britannia Bay. The walk down to the beach is 5 minutes (steep return). Mules and the hotel's Land Rover handle the elderly or anyone uncomfortable with the climb.
Access is via Mustique Airways from Barbados only. Build a buffer night in Barbados to absorb a missed connection; the last 8-seater out of Mustique is mid-afternoon.
Firefly typically closes from late August through October for the deep hurricane months. Confirm exact reopening dates when booking the November shoulder.

How to get there?
Barbados (BGI) is the only practical air gateway to Mustique. Mustique Airways or SVG Air operate scheduled 8-seater Britten-Norman Islander flights from BGI to Mustique (MQS), 50 minutes. Firefly arranges the flight booking and meets guests at the airstrip with a Mule transfer (3 minutes). International gateway flights to BGI from JFK, MIA, LHR/LGW and YYZ are direct.
