The property is the original 18th-century private villa “La Casetta”, expanded over the decades with adjoining gardens and a small number of cliff-edge additions, with the result that almost every room has a private terrace overlooking either the Faraglioni rocks or the Marina Piccola cove below. Two saltwater pools (one at the lower garden level, more peaceful; one upper terrace pool, more social), a single restaurant on the panoramic terrace serving Mediterranean classics (no Michelin star — the food is solid family-Italian rather than fine-dining), and a small spa with three treatment rooms. The defining experience is the cliff-edge private terraces — the property’s architectural quirk is that almost no two rooms have the same layout, and many guests develop loyalty to specific rooms (room 401 with its 270° wraparound terrace is the cult favourite). The Morgano family operates the property with a warmth that the larger Quisisana down the road cannot match — guests are greeted by name, the staff remembers preferences year to year, and the operation feels closer to a private villa stay than a hotel. The honeymoon move is a Deluxe Junior Suite with private cliff terrace, or the spectacular Royal Suite with its private pool. The defining moment: breakfast on your private terrace with the Faraglioni rocks visible through the bougainvillea and Capri Town just waking up below. Caveats: no Michelin restaurant on-site — for fine dining you walk 6 minutes to L’Olivo at Capri Palace by taxi (15 min) or eat in Capri Town; the 4-star classification reflects a more modest amenity level than the 5-star Capri Palace or J.K. Place; and the hotel is genuinely quiet — not the buzzy social scene of Quisisana 200m away. But for honeymooners who specifically want Capri Town address, intimate family-owned operation, and a private cliff terrace at a 30% lower price than the J.K. Place or Capri Palace, La Scalinatella is the secret pick.
