The St. Regis Venice

El veredicto

¿Vale la pena para su luna de miel?

The St. Regis Venice is the most thoroughly modernised of the great Grand Canal palace hotels — a 169-room property occupying five connected historic palazzi (including the 17th-century Palazzo Pisani-Gritti and Casa San Maurizio) on the same Santa Maria del Giglio bend of the Grand Canal as the Gritti, immediately next door. The hotel reopened in 2019 after a complete two-year, $300-million restoration that essentially rebuilt the interiors from the ground up under Italian architect Pierre-Yves Rochon — the result is contemporary Venetian rather than historicist, with terrazzo floors, modern Murano glasswork commissioned for the property, original 18th-century palazzo ceilings preserved overhead, and a coherent design language that feels closer to a great Milanese hotel than to the maximalist Gritti or the museum-grade Aman. The defining feature is butler service — the St. Regis brand’s signature; each room gets a 24-hour Butler on call (unpacking, packing, drawing baths, last-minute restaurant bookings) that fundamentally changes the rhythm of a Venetian honeymoon. The Gio’s rooftop terrace and the Arts Bar inside (with its commissioned Vik Muniz portrait of Salvador Dalí at the bar) are the hotel’s social anchors. The food operation is solid (Gio’s, the rooftop, with a panoramic view of Salute, Punta della Dogana and the lagoon) but not Michelin-aspirational — use the hotel’s sister-property restaurants in the city for the great Venetian meals. The honeymoon move is a Grand Canal Deluxe Suite with private terrace, or the spectacular St. Regis Suite with its Salute-facing wraparound balcony. The defining moment: butler-arranged candlelit dinner on your private Grand Canal terrace at sunset. Caveats: 169 rooms means scale rather than intimacy — the Aman, Gritti and Ca’Sagredo all feel more personal; the contemporary interiors are not for guests who want overt Venetian baroque; and the Luxury Collection corporate operation comes through in small ways. But for honeymooners who want the only butler service on the Grand Canal and the most polished modern interiors of the great palace hotels, the St. Regis is the clear choice.

Recomendación de habitación

Qué habitación reservar

Selección del experto
desde el rango $1,100–$7,000/noche

A Grand Canal Deluxe Suite with private terrace (on the Grand Canal directly, upper floors). For the absolute pinnacle, the St. Regis Suite with the Salute-facing wraparound balcony. Avoid the interior-courtyard Junior Suites — lovely interiors but no canal view, which is the entire point of staying at this address.

Evaluación honesta

Lo que debe saber antes de reservar

!

169 rooms means scale and slight corporate feel — the Aman and Ca’Sagredo are far more intimate.

!

Contemporary interiors are coherent and beautiful but lack the historic Venetian baroque of the Gritti.

!

Gio’s rooftop is excellent but not Michelin-aspirational — use city restaurants for great meals.
