Capella Singapore is the city's only true resort hotel — 30 acres of restored colonial-era Tanah Merah officers' quarters on a hilltop on Sentosa Island, woven into rainforest, with three cascading swimming pools and one of the most accomplished spas in Asia. Norman Foster's 2009 architecture takes the original 1880s British military buildings (the two Tanah Merah colonial blocks) and links them with a contemporary curved low-rise wing that wraps around the lawn and pools. The result is the polar opposite of Marina Bay's vertical glass — horizontal, lush, peacock-strewn (yes, peacocks roam the grounds), and palpably tropical. The G20 summit was held here in 2018 (Trump–Kim); the staff have seen it all. For honeymooners, Capella is the move when you want resort feel inside a city break — proper swimming pool days, jungle-walks past the rainforest, three pools (the spectacular split-level cascading lap pool with sea horizon, a separate family pool, and the Auriga Spa relaxation pool), and a 30-minute taxi back to Marina Bay when you want it.
