The Hotel Danieli is the most spectacularly located hotel in Venice — three connected palazzi (the 14th-century Palazzo Dandolo, the Palazzo Casa Nuova, and the 19th-century Palazzo Danieli Excelsior) on the Riva degli Schiavoni, two minutes’ walk from the Doge’s Palace and looking directly across the Bacino di San Marco at the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. The original Palazzo Dandolo lobby, with its four-story gold-leaf Gothic atrium and grand staircase, is among the most photographed hotel interiors in the world. The hotel has hosted Wagner, Dickens, Proust, Balzac, Ruskin, Greta Garbo, Sophia Loren, and every European royal of the 20th century. Today it operates as part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, and the property is in the middle of an extended restoration (2024–2026, scheduled completion 2026) that is bringing the Dandolo and Casa Nuova interiors back to original splendor under the direction of the Italian architect Pierre-Yves Rochon. The Restaurant Terrazza Danieli on the rooftop has the most panoramic 360° dining view in Venice — looking across to Salute, San Giorgio Maggiore, and back to the Doge’s Palace.
