Norman Foster's 2009 architecture takes the original 1880s British military buildings (the two Tanah Merah colonial blocks) and links them with a contemporary curved low-rise wing that wraps around the lawn and pools. The result is the polar opposite of Marina Bay's vertical glass — horizontal, lush, peacock-strewn (yes, peacocks roam the grounds), and palpably tropical. The G20 summit was held here in 2018 (Trump–Kim); the staff have seen it all. For honeymooners, Capella is the move when you want resort feel inside a city break — proper swimming pool days, jungle-walks past the rainforest, three pools (the spectacular split-level cascading lap pool with sea horizon, a separate family pool, and the Auriga Spa relaxation pool), and a 30-minute taxi back to Marina Bay when you want it.
