O veredicto

Vale a pena para sua lua de mel?

Château d'Artigny is the cinematic Loire château hotel at scale — a 1928 neoclassical pile built by the perfumer François Coty (Coty perfumes) on a 65-hectare park above the Indre river, 15 minutes south of Tours. The interiors are pure 1920s grand-hotel — a circular grand salon under a painted dome, a curving marble staircase, vast dining rooms with frescoed ceilings, and 65 rooms in the main château plus a converted hunting lodge (Le Pavillon) and chapel annex in the park. The pool, spa, indoor pool, and tennis courts are excellent for a property this size. What you get at Artigny is the architectural ambition of a major château at the price point of a regional Relais — half the cost of equivalent ultra-luxury rooms at Provence properties, with arguably more impressive built fabric. The trade-off is that Artigny is a Grandes Étapes property rather than a Relais & Châteaux, which means the food, while good, is not at Michelin tasting-menu level (the restaurant is fine traditional French; do not expect Donckele or Roellinger). For honeymoon couples whose vision of the Loire is the grand château with the curving staircase, the formal gardens, and the dome ceiling — and who want that vision at €400-700 per night rather than €1,200-2,000 — Artigny is exactly the right address. Pair with day trips to Chenonceau (30 min east), Villandry gardens (20 min west), and Vouvray (35 min east) for a complete Loire honeymoon week.

The Chambre Prestige category in the main château — generous square footage, park views, and the historic interiors. The Suite category gets you a separate sitting room and the bigger windows. For maximum drama, the Suite Coty named after the original owner has a private terrace over the park. Avoid the Pavillon and chapel annex rooms (Catégorie Confort and Standard) — they're separate buildings in the park without the château feel.

Dia a dia

Seu roteiro de lua de mel de 7 noites

1

Arrival from Paris

TGV from Paris Gare Montparnasse to Tours St-Pierre-des-Corps (1h), pick up the rental car at the station, 25-minute drive south to Montbazon. Welcome champagne in the Salon Rond under the painted dome, dinner in the main restaurant under the frescoes.

2

Chenonceau Sunrise

Drive 30 minutes east to Chenonceau for the 8:30am opening — the gallery built across the Cher river, the gardens of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de' Medici, the kitchens in the bridge piers. Lunch at L'Orangerie on site. Afternoon at the Artigny spa and pool.

3

Amboise and Clos Lucé

Drive 35 minutes east to Amboise — the royal château where François I was raised, the Clos Lucé manor where Leonardo lived from 1516 to 1519, and the gardens of his inventions. Lunch at L'Écluse or Le Choiseul. Late afternoon return to Artigny.

4

Vouvray Vineyards

Drive 30 minutes east to Vouvray for the day — tastings at Domaine Huet (the Vouvray reference), Champalou, and Domaine du Clos Naudin. Lunch at Restaurant Le Cèdre. Evening at Artigny's pool.

5

Chambord and Cheverny

Drive 1 hour east into the Loir-et-Cher — Chambord's 426-room Renaissance pile with the Leonardo staircase in the morning, lunch at the village, Cheverny's chapelle and the kennels in the afternoon. Return to Artigny for dinner.

6

Villandry Gardens

Drive 25 minutes west to Villandry for the most extraordinary formal gardens in France — the chess-board ornamental garden, the kitchen garden, the water garden. Lunch at the Etape Gourmande in the village. Afternoon spa back at Artigny.

7

Slow Morning and Departure

Final breakfast under the dome, a last walk in the 65-hectare park, and the drive back to Tours station for the TGV to Paris (or onward to CDG).

Avaliação honesta

O que saber antes de reservar

!

Artigny is a Grandes Étapes property — the service and food are good but not at Relais & Châteaux level. For Michelin-tier dining, Domaine des Hauts de Loire is the better choice.

!

The main château rooms are best — the chapel and Pavillon annex rooms are noticeably smaller and lose the architectural feel. Pay up for the château proper.

!

Artigny is rural — the nearest village (Montbazon) has limited evening dining. You'll eat at the property most nights, which is fine but worth knowing.

Subject: Honeymoon inquiry — Château d'Artigny

Dear Château d'Artigny reservations team,

We are planning our honeymoon for [DATES] and would love to stay 5-7 nights. Could you please advise on availability for a Chambre Prestige or Suite in the main château (or the Suite Coty if available)?

A few questions:
1. Are any wedding events scheduled during our dates?
2. Honeymoon turndown and welcome arrangements?
3. Spa couples treatment availability?
4. Local restaurant recommendations for evenings away from the property?

Thank you,

FAQ

Perguntas frequentes

Good for honeymooners?

Artigny delivers the grand-château honeymoon at meaningful discount to the top Relais & Châteaux — the painted dome, the curving marble staircase, the 65-hectare park are real. Best for couples whose Loire honeymoon priority is the architecture and the value, less for couples whose priority is Michelin tasting-menu dining.

Best time to visit?

May through September. May and June for the gardens at their freshest, September for the harvest and quieter crowds at the major châteaux. The hotel runs year-round but November-March feels bleak.

Book in advance?

2-4 months ahead for the Chambre Prestige and Suite categories. The Suite Coty books 4-6 months ahead. Direct booking via the hotel — Grandes Étapes group has a loyalty program with upgrade benefits.

Adults-only?

No — Artigny accepts families and runs a wedding venue business. Wedding weekends in May-September can be busy — ask at booking whether your dates coincide and request a wing away from the event space.

Best room type?

Chambre Prestige in the main château. Suite category for more space. Suite Coty for the honeymoon room. Skip the Pavillon and chapel annex rooms.

How to get there?

TGV from Paris Montparnasse to Tours St-Pierre-des-Corps (1h), then 25-minute drive south. Rent a car at Tours station for the week — essential for the châteaux. Paris CDG to the hotel by car is about 2h 45min.
