O veredicto

Vale a pena para sua lua de mel?

Coquillade Provence is the rare Luberon estate that combines a working vineyard, a serious spa, and resort-scale facilities without losing the Provençal feel — a restored 11th-century hamlet on a hilltop above the village of Gargas, surrounded by 40 hectares of estate Côtes du Ventoux vineyards, with views across the Luberon valley to the Roussillon ochre cliffs and the Mont Ventoux pyramid in the distance. Bought and rebuilt by the Swiss Sennheiser family (yes, the audio company), the property reopened as a 63-key resort with three pools (two outdoor, one indoor), the 1,000m² Spa Vinothérapie partnered with the French skincare brand La Sultane de Saba, the Michelin-recognized restaurant Le Gourmet, and one of Provence's better cycling-resort programmes (a fleet of high-end bicycles including BMC race bikes, since the Sennheiser family also owns BMC Switzerland). What honeymooners find: a property roughly midway in price between the boutique village hotels (Lou Calen, Crillon le Brave) and the apex flagships (Bastide de Gordes, Villa La Coste), with the country-estate scale that means you can spend a full day on the property without leaving — pool, spa, vineyard walk, lunch on the terrace, evening tasting in the cellar. Ideal for honeymoon couples wanting active days (cycling, vineyards) paired with serious comfort.

The Suites Coquillade in the original 11th-century stone hamlet are the architectural choice — vaulted ceilings, private terraces overlooking the vines, freestanding baths, and the most atmosphere. For maximum privacy, the standalone Villa Coquillade is a two-bedroom private cottage with its own pool, walled garden, and direct vineyard access — overkill for two but the splurge option. Among the standard categories, the Junior Suite Vines (Vue Vignes) opens directly onto the upper terrace pool and has the cleanest Luberon view. Avoid the Garden-view rooms in the lower wing if budget allows — they look at the parking forecourt rather than the vines.

Dia a dia

Seu roteiro de lua de mel de 7 noites

1

Arrival from Marseille

Land at Marseille (MRS) and drive 90 minutes north into the Luberon — the last 20 minutes climb through Apt's market town to the hilltop hamlet of Coquillade. Welcome glass of estate rosé on the pool terrace, a tour of the property with the resident sommelier, and a casual first dinner at the bistro Le Bistrot — the more elaborate Le Gourmet tasting menu is saved for later in the stay.

2

Roussillon Ochre & Apt Market

Saturday morning at the Apt market (one of the best Provençal markets — Apt is the candied-fruit capital of France since the 14th century, and the Saturday market fills the historic centre with cheese, olives, lavender honey, and santons). Lunch in Roussillon's ochre village (15 minutes away), then walk the Sentier des Ocres trail through the orange-red cliffs. Late afternoon spa at La Sultane de Saba with the signature couples hammam.

3

Estate Vineyard Day

A morning vineyard walk with the head winemaker through the estate's organic Côtes du Ventoux blocks; a tasting in the rebuilt 11th-century wine cellar of the estate's full range including the flagship Aureto. Lunch at the casual Bistrot terrace. Afternoon free at the pool or the spa hammam followed by a couples massage. Evening dinner at Le Gourmet — the tasting menu paired with estate wines.

4

Bonnieux, Lacoste & the Luberon Villages

A drive through the southern Luberon hilltop villages — Bonnieux (lunch at Le Fournil for the village's famed pain au levain), Lacoste (the village dominated by the ruined château of the Marquis de Sade, now partly restored by Pierre Cardin), and the Sénanque Abbey 30 minutes north for the late-afternoon lavender (June-July peak). Return via Gordes for a sunset cocktail at the Bastide bar before retreating to Coquillade for dinner.

5

Cycling Day or Spa Day

Two options: serious honeymoon couples take a guided cycling route through the Calavon valley on the resort's BMC bikes (15-40 km circuits available); relaxed couples spend the full day at the spa with the signature six-hour ritual (couples hammam, vinotherapy bath, lavender massage, lunch at the spa). Evening at the upper pool with a glass of estate Aureto.

6

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Day Trip

Drive 75 minutes west to Châteauneuf-du-Pape for the canonical southern Rhône wine day — a tasting at Domaine du Pégaü, lunch at La Mère Germaine in the village square, and a second tasting at Château La Nerthe. Return via Avignon for an early-evening walk on the Pont d'Avignon. Late return for a casual dinner at the Bistrot.

7

Final Morning & Departure

Final breakfast on the terrace, a last walk through the vines, and the drive back to Marseille (90 min) or Avignon TGV (55 min).

Avaliação honesta

O que saber antes de reservar

!

Coquillade is genuinely rural — the nearest open restaurant outside the property is 10-15 minutes by car (in Gargas or Apt), and there is no walkable village beyond the property gates.

!

The hilltop access road is narrow and unlit at night — drive carefully and have your phone GPS active on first arrival.

!

Le Gourmet has Michelin recognition (Plate level) but does not currently hold stars — couples expecting Bastide de Gordes / Villa La Coste-level cuisine should temper expectations; the cooking is excellent regional Provençal rather than Michelin-star-chasing.

!

The hotel closes from early November through mid-March; the strongest windows are May-June and September-October.

!

The pool and terraces have steps and level changes throughout — beautiful but worth flagging for guests with mobility issues.

!

August in Provence is hot (36°C+) and locals are on holiday — many Luberon restaurants close, so August stays should plan in-property dining.

FAQ

Perguntas frequentes

Good for honeymooners?

Coquillade is among the strongest mid-luxury Provence honeymoon hotels — the country-estate scale, the working vineyard, the serious spa, and the price point that sits below the apex flagships. The guest mix skews couples and adult parties outside French school holidays.

Best time to visit?

Mid-May to mid-June and mid-September through October are the honeymoon sweet spots. Lavender peak (last week of June through mid-July) is most photogenic but busiest. Skip August unless you specifically want the heat and the holiday closures.

Book in advance?

63 rooms and suites — book 3-4 months ahead for the shoulder months and 5-6 months ahead for lavender July. The Suites Coquillade in the original hamlet book first.

Adults-only?

Not adults-only, but the estate scale and the cycling-vineyard-spa programme mean the guest mix is overwhelmingly couples and adult parties outside the French summer holiday peak.

Best room type?

Suites Coquillade in the original 11th-century hamlet for character; the standalone Villa Coquillade for full privacy with a private pool; Junior Suite Vines for the cleanest valley view at the standard tier.

How to get there?

Marseille (MRS) is 90 minutes by rental car; Avignon TGV is 55 minutes; Aix-en-Provence TGV is 70 minutes. The hotel arranges private transfers. A rental car is essential for the week — the surrounding Luberon villages are not on public transport.
