Why Here for Your Honeymoon

The United Arab Emirates does honeymoon theatre better than any destination on earth. Where else can you check into the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab with a Rolls-Royce transfer, dine in 17 restaurants at Atlantis The Royal (including BeyoncΓ©'s opening stage), wake up to Arabian oryx outside a Bedouin-style suite in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, and end the week in Emirates Palace's 114-dome marble splendour in Abu Dhabi? This is luxury at a scale and fantastical level that has to be experienced to be understood. Beyond the skyline, the UAE also offers genuinely transcendent desert resorts β€” Al Maha, Qasr Al Sarab β€” where the sand dunes outside your pool villa stretch to the horizon.

What to Do

Top 5 Romantic Experiences in Uae

🏝️
01

Private Beach Day at Burj Al Arab

The sail-shaped icon is not just a hotel β€” the Terrace infinity pool and beach club is the single most photographed honeymoon location in the UAE. A sunset cocktail at the 27th-floor Skyview Bar completes the set.

πŸ’‘ Insider tip

Book the Royal Suite if budget allows β€” it has 24-carat gold leaf, a private cinema, and a butler per 8 guests. Skyview Bar requires a $200 minimum spend; worth every dirham.

Non-guest Terrace access from $200/couple; a suite stays $2,000+
🏜️
02

Sunrise Camel Ride at Al Maha

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (225 kmΒ², protected) is where you ride a camel at dawn, breakfast in a rolling dune, and watch Arabian oryx graze near your pool villa. This is the desert romance image in its purest form.

πŸ’‘ Insider tip

Book Bedouin Suite category or higher β€” temperature-controlled plunge pools are essential even in January. Guided hot-air balloon at sunrise is the single best activity.

Al Maha full-board from $1,400/night including 2 desert activities/day
πŸ›Ά
03

Abra Ride through Madinat Jumeirah

Madinat Jumeirah is a fantasy recreation of an Arabian souk on 3 km of meandering canals. A 15-minute traditional abra (wooden boat) ride between restaurants is the most romantic way to arrive at dinner. Burj Al Arab lights up the skyline.

πŸ’‘ Insider tip

Dine at Pierchic β€” a seafood restaurant at the end of a wooden pier, 100m out in the Arabian Gulf, with the Burj Al Arab glowing pink at sunset.

Free for Jumeirah hotel guests; canal rides $30/couple for others

04

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi

One of the largest mosques in the world β€” 82 white marble domes, inlays of precious stones, and the world's largest hand-knotted carpet (5,700 mΒ²). Open to non-Muslims free of charge.

πŸ’‘ Insider tip

Go 90 minutes before sunset and stay for the floodlit post-dusk view β€” it's genuinely breathtaking. Modest dress required; free abayas loaned for women without appropriate cover.

Expert Advice

Insider Tips for Your Uae Honeymoon

01

Book helicopter transfer between Dubai and Abu Dhabi

The Falcon Aviation helicopter transfer is $800–$1,200 for the 25-minute flight vs 90 minutes by road. The aerial view of the Palm, the Burj, and Saadiyat Island is a honeymoon highlight unto itself.

02

Dine during off-hours for iconic restaurants

Nobu, Zuma, and CÉ LA VI accept lunch reservations that would take weeks at dinner. The 2pm slot at Nobu Dubai is a quieter, more intimate experience than the 8pm crush.

03

Ramadan changes everything β€” know your dates

During Ramadan (dates shift yearly), daytime eating, drinking, and public displays of affection are restricted for everyone outside hotels. Hotels operate normally. Check dates before booking.

04

Most hotels quote pre-tax; actual cost is +20%

UAE hotels add 10% municipality fee + 10% service + 5% VAT to quoted rates. The Burj Al Arab "from $2,000" is really $2,400 all-in. Factor this in when budgeting.

05

Friday brunch is a UAE institution

Hotel brunches on Friday/Saturday are a 4-hour feast with free-flowing Champagne. Bubbalicious at Westin, Saffron at Atlantis, and the Al Qasr brunch are iconic. Book 2 weeks ahead.

What to Pack

Packing List for Uae

1
Smart-casual evening wear
Dubai dining scene is dressed-up β€” jackets for men, dresses for women at most landmark restaurants. Shorts and tees will get you turned away at the Skyview Bar.
2
Modest daytime cover-up
At malls, souks, and outside hotel pools, shoulders and knees should be covered. Resort wear is fine at the resort only.
3
High-UV sunscreen SPF 50+
The Gulf sun is brutal even in January. Reapply every 2 hours at the pool.
4
Light scarf or pashmina
Indoor air conditioning is aggressive β€” restaurants and malls often run at 18Β°C. Also covers shoulders at mosques.
5
Metro Nol card
Dubai Metro is fast, air-conditioned, and cheap. A Nol card works on metro, tram, buses, and some ferries. Buy at the airport metro station on arrival.

Food & Drink

What You'll Eat in Uae

Al Harees (slow-cooked wheat and meat, traditional Ramadan dish); Luqaimat (deep-fried dough balls drizzled with date syrup β€” UAE's national dessert); Camel burger at Seven Sands in Dubai; Karak chai (Emirati milk tea with cardamom, best from Al Safadi); A Friday brunch at Bubbalicious or Saffron; Persian-Arabic cuisine at Ariana's Persian Kitchen in Atlantis. Dubai is also the world capital of Emirati-free gastronomy β€” you can eat ramen, tacos, Parisian bistro, sushi, Neapolitan pizza, Peruvian all at the same destination standard.

Practical Guide

Getting to Uae

✈️

Getting There

Fly direct to Dubai (DXB) on Emirates, Etihad (to AUH), flydubai, or British Airways. From London: 7h direct. From NYC: 12–13h direct on Emirates. From Sydney: 14h on Emirates/Qantas. Dubai airport is 20 minutes from Downtown, 40 from Marina. Etihad to Abu Dhabi (AUH) is 90 minutes by road from Dubai and often much cheaper. Intra-UAE transfers: chauffeur car $120–$200 or book the complimentary Abu Dhabi transfer when staying at Emirates Palace.

πŸ“

Where to Stay

Classic honeymoon: 3 nights Dubai (Bulgari, Burj Al Arab, or Atlantis) β†’ 2 nights Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (Al Maha) β†’ 2 nights Abu Dhabi (Emirates Palace or Qasr Al Sarab). If time-pressed: 4 nights Dubai + 2 nights desert is enough for a spectacular first visit.

πŸ“…

When to Go

November–March is the only comfortable outdoor window. December–February is peak and priciest; November and March are equally pleasant and meaningfully cheaper. April–October is 36Β°C+ and many outdoor activities (desert dunes, beach days) become uncomfortable or dangerous. Christmas/NYE in Dubai carries a 40–80% premium but has spectacular firework shows at the Burj Khalifa and Palm.
