The Fairmont Banff Springs is the original Castle in the Rockies — a Scottish-baronial sandstone fortress built by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1888 to lure 19th-century tourists to the new transcontinental line, and now a 757-room Fairmont property that remains the most iconic hotel in Canada. Sat on a bluff above the confluence of the Bow and Spray rivers with a view directly into Mount Rundle, the castle has the kind of presence that makes guests audibly gasp at the first sight from the access road. The honeymoon proposition has two halves.
