Le verdict
Cela vaut-il le coup pour votre voyage de noces ?
Sabyinyo Silverback is the lodge that funds itself: 100% community-owned by the Sacola Trust, with profits returned to Kinigi village. Eight stone cottages with peat fires sit at the foot of the volcanoes — utterly comfortable, deeply meaningful, half the price of Singita or Bisate. Run by Governors' Camp Collection (Kenya safari royalty), so the food and service are exceptional.

Recommandation de chambre
Quelle chambre réserver
The Silverback Cottage (the original, slightly larger) has the best volcano view from its private terrace. The two Twin Cottages and six Standard Cottages are otherwise comparable — all 65 m², stone fireplaces, deep tubs, four-poster beds dressed in Rwandan textiles.

Itinéraire de 7 nuits pour votre voyage de noces
Arrival from Kigali
Fly into Kigali, 2.5h drive via Musanze. Welcome at the lodge with banana-leaf-wrapped warm towels and Rwandan tea. Settle into your cottage. Briefing on tomorrow's gorilla trek family allocation. Three-course dinner with Rwandan beef sambaza.
First gorilla trek
Pre-dawn breakfast, transfer to Kinigi park HQ. Sabyinyo Silverbacks (the Trust's namesake family) are often allocated to lodge guests. Trek 2–6h. One hour with the gorillas. Hot lunch on return. Afternoon by the fire, in-room massage available.
Golden monkey trek + community visit
Easier 1.5h trek to the golden monkey families in the bamboo zone. Lunch at the lodge. Afternoon visit to the Sacola community projects funded by your stay — primary school, women's basket-weaving cooperative. Evening sundowners around the firepit.
Second gorilla trek
Different gorilla family, different ascent. Many guests find the second trek the more rewarding — relaxed enough to truly observe behaviour. Return for an early dinner of grilled tilapia and chips, the local comfort food.
Dian Fossey grave hike
4–5h moderate-to-tough round-trip to the Karisoke ruins and Fossey's grave. Picnic packed by the kitchen — chapati wraps, fresh fruit. Hot bath and fireside dinner of Rwandan banana stew on return.
Iby'iwacu cultural day
Full morning at the Iby'iwacu Cultural Village — ex-poachers turned cultural performers. Intore warrior dancing, traditional medicine demonstration, banana beer tasting. Lunch at the village. Afternoon free at the lodge.
Farewell breakfast & Kigali
Slow breakfast on the lodge terrace. Final volcano photographs. Drive to Kigali (2.5h). Lunch at the Genocide Memorial visitor café (the gardens are exceptional). Evening departure.
Évaluation honnête
Ce qu'il faut savoir avant de réserver
Older lodge (opened 2008) — comfortable rather than ultra-modern; charm over slickness.
No swimming pool or spa pavilion — in-room massages only.
Smaller property (8 cottages) means dining room can feel intimate or close, depending on group dynamics.
Permits are $1,500/day/person — separate cost.
Cottage heating is solid but the climate is genuinely cold at night (5–10°C); pack layers.

FAQ
Questions fréquentes
Good for honeymooners?
Very. The cottages are private, fireplaces are deeply romantic, and the community-ownership story makes the trip feel meaningful. Couples regularly call this the highest-impact lodge of their lives.
Best time to visit?
June–September dry season; January–February short dry. Wet seasons offer 30% lower rates but harder treks.
Book in advance?
6–9 months ahead, especially for the Silverback Cottage. Permits are secured with the booking by Governors' Camp.
Adults-only?
No, but the trekking age minimum (15) and lodge layout mean it's effectively adult-leaning.
Best room type?
Silverback Cottage for the slightly larger footprint and best volcano view; the Standard Cottages are otherwise nearly identical.
How to get there?
Fly to Kigali (KGL). 2.5h transfer by lodge vehicle. Helicopter from Kigali (~$2,500/couple one-way).
