Sofitel Kia Ora is Moorea's gentle answer to Bora Bora — same turquoise lagoon, same overwater bungalows, a fraction of the price, and a lush mountain backdrop (Cook's Bay and Mount Rotui) that is arguably more beautiful than Otemanu. The resort sits on Temae Beach, the best beach on Moorea, a long soft-sand strip facing Tahiti across the lagoon. The property has 60 bungalows mixing beachfront and overwater, a lovely infinity pool, and a proper Sofitel sense of French-Polynesian polish without the stiffness. Overwater bungalows are updated with glass floor panels, outdoor showers, and ladders straight into the lagoon. Service is warm, the food is surprisingly good (the French breakfast alone is a reason to stay), and honeymooners love the sunrise-over-Tahiti views east-facing from the overwater pontoon.
