Le verdict
Cela vaut-il le coup pour votre voyage de noces ?
Staniel Cay Yacht Club is the legendary base camp of the Exumas — a small collection of brightly painted clapboard cottages on stilts above the impossibly clear water of Staniel Cay, the gateway to the swimming pigs of Big Major Cay, the friendly nurse sharks of Compass Cay, and the James Bond filming location at Thunderball Grotto. It's not luxury in the polished resort sense — it's character, location, and access to the world's most photogenic waters.

Recommandation de chambre
Quelle chambre réserver
The waterfront cottages are the SCYC's iconic identity — small, hot-pink, lime-green, and turquoise standalone bungalows built on stilts directly above the channel water. Cottages have small private decks and basic but comfortable interiors. The Captain's Quarters and the Marina-View Cottages are quieter; the Pink Cottage is the most photographed. Honeymooners should request a waterfront cottage on the channel side for direct boat access and the iconic stilts experience.

Jour par jour
Itinéraire de 7 nuits pour votre voyage de noces
Arrival in the Exumas
Fly to Staniel Cay airstrip directly from Fort Lauderdale or Nassau on Watermakers Air or Flamingo Air — small plane, big arrival. Golf cart transfer to the SCYC, settle into your stilted cottage, walk the small village in 15 minutes. First dinner at the SCYC bar — fresh-caught hogfish, conch fritters, and the famous Goombay Smash rum cocktails as boats come in for the evening.
Pig Beach & Compass Cay
The essential Exumas day — rent a 22-foot center console from the SCYC marina. Five minutes north reaches Big Major Cay's Pig Beach, where the famous swimming pigs paddle out to the boat for snacks. Continue to Compass Cay's marina to swim with friendly nurse sharks in the shallows. Lunch at the Compass Cay restaurant, return via the spectacular Exuma sandbars.
Thunderball Grotto
Thunderball Grotto is a small limestone island with an underwater cave system pierced by sunlight from holes in the ceiling — used as the lair in the 1965 James Bond film. Snorkel inside the cathedral-like grotto at low tide; the schools of sergeant majors and the beams of light through the water are extraordinary. Followed by a sandbar lunch on Iguana Beach with the Exuma rock iguanas.
Exuma Land and Sea Park
Boat north into the Exuma Land and Sea Park — a 176-square-mile marine reserve with no fishing and pristine reefs. Snorkel at Rocky Dundas, swim through the limestone arches at Exuma Sound, and visit Warderick Wells, the park's headquarters with stunning blue-green water and a hilltop bone-white whale skeleton. Return to Staniel Cay by late afternoon.
Quiet Day & Fishing
A slower day after the boat-intensive previous days. Morning bonefishing on the flats with a local guide (the Exumas have excellent flats), afternoon at the small SCYC pool. Sunset cocktails at the marina deck watching mega-yachts come in for the evening — the SCYC is a major Caribbean yacht stop and the harbor parade is part of the show.
Pirate's Trap & Aquarium
South Staniel boat day — Pirate's Trap reef for snorkeling, the underwater Aquarium snorkel site (a natural coral coliseum dense with reef fish), and Big Galliot Cay sandbar for a champagne picnic. The water in this stretch of the Exumas is consistently the iconic milk-blue of Bahamas postcard photography.
Final Pig Visit & Departure
A final morning trip to Pig Beach — the pigs are most active early before the day-charter boats arrive from Nassau. Quick snorkel, breakfast at the SCYC, and the small-plane departure from Staniel Cay airstrip. The Exumas leave a strong impression — most guests are already planning a return.
Évaluation honnête
Ce qu'il faut savoir avant de réserver
Staniel Cay Yacht Club is character, not luxury — cottages are simple, the spa is basic, and amenities are limited; couples expecting Four Seasons polish will be disappointed.
The Exumas are remote and weather-dependent — strong winds can cancel boat days. February and March can have surprisingly cool windy spells.
Pig Beach has become very popular; the swimming pigs are often surrounded by day-charter visitors from Nassau between 11am and 2pm. Early morning trips from Staniel are markedly better.

FAQ
Questions fréquentes
Good for honeymooners?
Staniel Cay Yacht Club is excellent for honeymooners who want adventure-driven, water-immersive experience over polished resort luxury. The unmatched Exumas access, the iconic stilted cottages, and the small-island camaraderie make it perfect for couples who love boating, snorkeling, and a relaxed nautical atmosphere.
Best time to visit?
December through May is the dry season with the most reliable weather. March through May offers the best balance of warm water, calm winds, and clear visibility. Hurricane season is August through October. June and July are warm and quieter but increasingly humid.
Book in advance?
SCYC is small — about 14 cottages — and books out 4 to 8 months ahead for peak season. Waterfront stilted cottages are the most requested. The yacht club's reputation has grown enormously through Instagram, increasing demand.
Adults-only?
SCYC is not adults-only and welcomes families, particularly fishing and boating families. The atmosphere is casual and nautical rather than formal-romantic — couples who enjoy the sailing-club energy will find it perfect.
Best room type?
A waterfront cottage on the channel side is the iconic SCYC experience — stilted bungalow over the water with a small deck. The Pink Cottage is the most photographed. The Captain's Quarters is the most spacious for honeymooners.
How to get there?
Staniel Cay airstrip is reached by small-plane from Fort Lauderdale (Watermakers Air, Tropic Ocean Airways) or Nassau (Flamingo Air). Both are 60- to 90-minute flights on small aircraft. Total travel time from US East Coast cities is typically 5 to 7 hours.
