The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Sandibe is the camp for design-literate honeymooners. &Beyond commissioned Fox Browne to reimagine the lodge after a fire, and the result is twelve suspended pangolin-shaped suites that curl out of the riverine forest like something dreamed up by an architect who had just come back from a long walk in the Delta. Each suite is a wooden, wing-shaped pod on stilts with a private plunge pool, a rooftop star-gazing sala, a fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling glass opening onto a game-rich channel. The Chitabe Concession around it is one of the Delta's most reliable year-round predator areas — leopard on nearly every drive, wild dog in season, and a strong lion presence. It is, in short, one of the two or three most romantic safari bedrooms in Africa.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $1,800–$4,500/night range

All twelve suites are essentially identical, but ask for one of the river-facing units further from the main area — they get the best private channel views, the quietest evenings, and the most dramatic sunrises through the glass. The Family Suite sleeps four and is not what you want; the standard suspended suite is the honeymoon room. Request a turndown private dinner on your rooftop sala for one night.

Day by Day

Your 7-night honeymoon itinerary

1

Arrival into the forest

Light-aircraft flight from Maun onto the Chitabe airstrip, a gentle transfer through riverine woodland, suite orientation with a glass of champagne, and an easy afternoon drive ending with sundowners on the Gomoti channel.

2

Leopard morning

Early coffee and rusks, a long morning drive with your guide and tracker focused on the Chitabe leopards, brunch back on the deck, a cooling swim in your plunge pool and an evening drive with a sundowner stop.

3

Mokoro and walking

A silent mokoro glide through lily-covered channels at dawn, breakfast back at camp, an optional guided bush walk with an armed guide in the morning, and a boma dinner in the evening under the fig trees.

4

Full-day drive

Pack a picnic basket, head deep into the concession for a full-day safari with lunch under a shady tree, and return in time for a couples spa treatment and a candlelit dinner on your private deck.

5

Wild dog and river

A targeted morning drive looking for the resident wild dog pack, a relaxed brunch, an afternoon sundowner cruise on the Santantadibe channel and a private dinner back in-suite after a fireside nightcap.

6

Slow day, rooftop night

A late start, breakfast in bed, brunch on the main deck, an afternoon drive with sundowners on a floodplain, and a private dinner served on your rooftop sala under the stars.

7

Farewell drive and transfer

Final dawn drive, brunch, and a light-aircraft transfer to your onward camp or back to Maun for international connections.

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

Access is exclusively by light-aircraft charter from Maun; expect a 20 kg soft-sided duffel limit per guest, no hard-sided luggage, and flight timings that can shift for weather or game-movement reasons.

!

The Delta is a seasonal system — May to September brings the high waters, greener scenery and best mokoro and boat activity, while October to April is drier, warmer and generally more productive for predator sightings on land.

!

This is a malaria zone — consult your travel doctor about prophylaxis, bring DEET, long sleeves and trousers for dusk drives, and be prepared for normal bush-camp insect life including tsetse flies in some areas.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is Sandibe different from the Wilderness flagships?

&Beyond's design sensibility is more architectural and more contemporary than Wilderness's classic safari aesthetic. Sandibe feels like a boutique design hotel that happens to be in the bush, whereas Mombo or Jao feel more like grand old safari lodges reimagined. Both are exceptional; Sandibe wins on bedroom design.

Is the game viewing genuinely year-round?

Chitabe is one of the most balanced concessions in the Delta because it combines dry-land habitat with permanent water. You can drive and boat nearly year-round, and leopard, lion, elephant and wild dog sightings are strong across both seasons.

Are children allowed?

Sandibe accepts children aged six and above, and offers a dedicated family suite. In practice the camp feels couples-led and the main deck skews adult — honeymooners will not be overrun by kids.

How long should we stay?

Three or four nights is the sweet spot at Sandibe. Stay longer and you should combine it with a second, complementary camp — a water camp like Jao or Vumbura Plains, or a dry-country camp like Duba or Zarafa, for a true cross-section of Botswana.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, the main area and suites have Wi-Fi, though it is satellite-based and best used for light messaging rather than streaming. Most guests choose to disconnect; if you need to work, it is workable.

What is the food like?

&Beyond's kitchens are excellent across their portfolio and Sandibe is no exception — expect three-course dinners with strong South African wines, themed boma evenings, bush breakfasts and plenty of dietary flexibility on request.
