Mowani is the best mid-priced lodge in Damaraland and the most photogenic property between Sossusvlei and Etosha. The 12 thatched tented suites are scattered among house-sized red granite boulders; you climb a stone staircase to reach your room, push open a wooden door, and walk into a deck angled at the surrounding kopjes. The signature feature is the rooftop sundowner bar built on top of a single huge boulder — guests gather there with a drink as the rocks turn from rust to crimson under a low sun.
