What to know before you book
Samburu is significantly hotter than the Mara or Laikipia — midday temperatures can reach 38°C in dry season and outdoor activities are usually suspended between roughly 11am and 4pm.
Samburu National Reserve is managed by county authorities and game drive vehicles from the town camps also operate inside the reserve — the experience is excellent but not as exclusive as a private conservancy.
There is no Great Migration in Samburu — it is a different, arguably more characterful wildlife experience, but couples specifically seeking migration herds should head to the Mara instead.
