The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Silversands Grenada is the architectural outlier of the Caribbean — a starkly minimalist, AvroKO-designed property on the northern crescent of Grand Anse Beach that opened in late 2018 and feels closer to a Bali ultra-modern villa than anything else in the region. The defining feature is the 100-metre infinity pool — the longest in the Caribbean — running the full length of the property and meeting the Grand Anse sand at its terminus. The 43 suites and 9 freestanding beachfront villas are all marble, travertine, and floor-to-ceiling glass, with a deliberate restraint that reads as European hotel design rather than Caribbean tropical kitsch. There is no other honeymoon property in Grenada (or arguably the eastern Caribbean) operating in this aesthetic register. Service is precise, the spa is the island's best, and the beach is genuinely one of the top five in the Caribbean — two miles of soft white sand, calm leeward-coast water, no cruise-ship overflow. Couples who have done Aman Sveti Stefan or Cheval Blanc Randheli will find Silversands the rare Caribbean property that operates at that design-forward, low-volume, high-detail level — but with the relative quiet of Grenada rather than the Saint Barts or Anguilla scene.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $850–$2,500/night range

The Beachfront Villas (1, 2, and 3 bedroom configurations) are the signature accommodations — freestanding white-cube villas directly on Grand Anse Beach with private pools, outdoor showers, and the ocean ten metres from the bedroom. Beachfront Villa 1 (one-bedroom) is the honeymoon-sized version at roughly $2,200-2,500 per night with a private 12m lap pool, butler service, and the same minimalist design vocabulary as the rest of the resort. For couples not needing the full villa, the Beachfront Pool Suite category offers a private terrace with a small plunge pool just steps from the sand at a far lower price point.

Day by Day

Your 7-night honeymoon itinerary

1

Arrival at Maurice Bishop International

Direct from JFK or MIA to Maurice Bishop International (GND) in 4 hours, then a 12-minute transfer north along the south coast to Grand Anse. Silversands greets arrivals with a chilled rum punch and an immediate tour of the property — the 100m infinity pool at sunset is the introduction to the design language. First dinner at Asiatique, the rooftop pan-Asian restaurant, with the lights of St George's harbour glowing on the horizon.

2

Grand Anse Beach Day & Pool

The Silversands 100-metre pool earns its first proper morning, followed by a beach walk south along the full two-mile Grand Anse crescent to Mount Cinnamon and the small public beach bars. Lunch at the resort's beachfront restaurant Grenadian by the Sea — the lobster roll is the signature. Afternoon spa treatment at the Silversands Spa (the four-handed coconut-oil massage is unique to the property), evening cocktails by the pool.

3

Belmont Estate Cocoa-to-Bar Tour

Drive 90 minutes north through the rainforest interior to Belmont Estate in St Patrick — Grenada's defining 400-year-old cocoa and spice plantation. The full cocoa-to-bar tour walks couples through cocoa pod harvest, fermentation, sun-drying on rolling wooden trays, and chocolate production at the Grenada Chocolate Company. Lunch is the Belmont Estate creole buffet on the verandah — callaloo soup, oildown, fresh juices. Return via the Annandale Falls roadside stop.

4

Underwater Sculpture Park Snorkel

Boat from Grand Anse to Molinere Bay on the leeward coast — Jason deCaires Taylor's Underwater Sculpture Park, the world's first underwater sculpture installation, sits in 3-8m of clear water. Snorkel among the human figures and the reef life that has colonised them. The full guided trip is 3 hours with stops at Dragon Bay and Flamingo Bay reefs. Lunch back at Silversands, afternoon rest, sunset cocktails on the pool deck.

5

Annandale Falls & Grand Etang Rainforest

Inland day exploring the volcanic interior — Annandale Falls (a 10-metre cascade in a green amphitheatre, 30 minutes from St George's) and Grand Etang National Park, the crater lake at the island's centre surrounded by rainforest. Mona monkeys come down to the trail at feeding time. Lunch at the Grand Etang lookout, return via the spice market in St George's to buy nutmeg, mace, and cinnamon bark from the source.

6

Carriacou Day Trip

Early ferry from St George's (45 minutes by fast catamaran) to Carriacou — Grenada's quieter sister island, a sailor's stop with Paradise Beach, Sandy Island (an offshore sandbar), and Anse La Roche. Lunch at Off the Hook beach bar, an afternoon snorkel at Sandy Island, and the return ferry by 5pm. Alternatively, charter a private catamaran from Silversands for the same itinerary with sunset return.

7

Spa Morning & Departure

Final morning split between the pool, a 90-minute spa treatment, and a slow breakfast on the villa terrace. Maurice Bishop International is 12 minutes from the property, so couples can enjoy a full late morning before the transfer. American Airlines, JetBlue, and British Airways operate the main departures.

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

Hurricane risk July-October — Silversands stays open year-round but September is the highest-risk month.

!

The minimalist white-cube architecture is divisive — couples wanting traditional Caribbean colour and lushness will prefer Spice Island Beach Resort or Calabash.

!

Fine dining outside the resort is limited on Grenada compared to St Lucia or Antigua; plan to eat most dinners on property.

!

Grand Anse Beach is public — the property has a private beach club zone but the wider beach has occasional vendors.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Good for honeymooners?

Silversands is among the most distinctive honeymoon properties in the Caribbean — the architectural restraint, the 100-metre pool, the beachfront villas, and the broader quiet of Grenada compared to the busier islands make this an exceptional choice for couples wanting design-forward luxury without the St Barts scene. Couples who have stayed at Aman or Cheval Blanc will recognise the operating standard.

Best time to visit?

December through May is dry season with cooling trade winds — the ideal honeymoon window. March and April are the most stable months with the calmest sea. May and early June offer excellent value before the July-October hurricane risk. November is the shoulder re-opening month with good rates and improving weather as the rains taper off.

Book in advance?

Beachfront Villas book 4-6 months ahead for the December-April peak. Beachfront Pool Suites and Garden suites have more flexibility but still benefit from 3 months of lead time. Valentine's Day, Easter, and the Christmas week sell out a year ahead. Silversands sometimes offers a fourth-night-free promotion in the May-June and November shoulder windows.

Adults-only?

Silversands accepts children but the minimalist design, the size of the pool, and the deliberate calm of the property mean the guest mix skews heavily adult — honeymooners, design-conscious couples, and returning luxury travellers dominate. Families with young children are rare and the property is not configured for them (no kids club, no shallow children's pool).

Best room type?

A Beachfront Villa is the essential Silversands experience — directly on the sand with private pool and outdoor shower. The one-bedroom Beachfront Villa is the honeymoon-sized option. For lower budgets, the Beachfront Pool Suite offers a private terrace with plunge pool steps from the beach at roughly half the price, and is still in the design-forward Silversands aesthetic.

How to get there?

Maurice Bishop International (GND) is just 12 minutes from Silversands. Direct flights operate from JFK (American, JetBlue) and Miami (American) in 4 hours, from Atlanta (Delta seasonally), and from London Gatwick (British Airways). European travellers without a direct usually connect via St Lucia (SLU) or Barbados (BGI). The property arranges all airport transfers.
