Don Totu Dimora Storica is the tiny, design-conscious dimora storica that has become the honeymoon-bookend choice for couples ending a Puglian masseria week with two or three nights of Salento city — an 8-room (yes, eight) 19th-century private palazzo in the small town of San Cassiano in the deep Salento, 35 km south of Lecce, restored by the Greco family with a deeply considered hand. The property was originally the home of Don Antonio “Totu” Greco, a local notary and book collector; the public rooms still contain his original library and family portraits, and each of the eight guest rooms is named for a Greco family ancestor and individually decorated with restored period antiques. The aesthetic is the opposite of resort-luxury — it is the lived-in, antique-strewn, slightly-faded grandeur of a real southern Italian palazzo, with the modern touches (high-thread linen, restored frescoes, a small plunge pool in the garden, a tiny rooftop terrace with a view across the Salento olive plain) layered in with restraint.
