El veredicto

¿Vale la pena para su luna de miel?

Hotel Las Torres is the original family-run lodge inside Torres del Paine National Park — a 4-star hotel of 84 rooms standing exactly at the trailhead to the Mirador Las Torres hike, the iconic granite-towers base lagoon trek that defines the park. It is owned and operated by the descendants of the Kusanović family who first settled the Estancia Cerro Paine in the 1920s, and the hotel runs an in-house conservation programme (puma research, reforestation, rewilding) that gives the stay genuine purpose. Las Torres is not the architectural marvel of Tierra, the heritage statement of The Singular, or the private-villa fantasy of Awasi — it is a comfortable, warm, well-run hotel for couples whose priority is hiking the park with the shortest possible trailhead approach, at a fraction of the all-inclusive lodge prices. Honeymooners who care most about the wilderness and least about the boutique-design layer will get exceptional value here.

Of the 84 rooms, the Suite Superior on the upper floor of the main lodge faces the Torres themselves and is the standout — large windows framing the granite massif, a separate sitting area, and a deeper tub. Standard Cordillera rooms also have the towers view but are smaller. Avoid the older annexe rooms near the staff areas if possible. Late afternoon light on the towers from the room window is the defining honeymoon moment of the stay.

Día a día

Su itinerario de luna de miel de 7 noches

1

Arrival at the Trailhead

Fly Punta Arenas (PUQ), private 4.5-hour transfer to the lodge at the foot of the towers trailhead. Welcome dinner of barbecue lamb and Chilean Merlot, briefing on the next morning's hike.

2

Mirador Las Torres

The signature hike — leave from the hotel's own trailhead at 7am for the 19 km return trek up to the granite towers base lagoon. The trail starts at the back of the property; you sleep 30 seconds from the trailhead, which is the entire reason to stay here.

3

Grey Glacier Day

Drive across the park (1.5 hours) to Pudeto for the Grey III catamaran to the calving glacier face. Lunch on board, optional kayak among the icebergs, return for an evening hot tub at the lodge.

4

Estancia Day & Conservation

A half-day horseback ride across the working estancia with the family's gauchos, then a visit to the in-house Torres del Paine Legacy Fund conservation centre — puma tracking, native forest restoration, rewilding talks. A meaningful break from the hiking rhythm.

5

French Valley Trek

A long day — drive to Pudeto, catamaran across Lake Pehoé to Paine Grande, then the 22 km French Valley return trek with hanging-glacier views. Late return to the lodge for a quick dinner and early bed.

6

Salto Grande & Rest

A lighter morning to the Salto Grande waterfall viewpoint, optional walk to Mirador Cuernos along Lake Nordenskjöld, then a long lazy afternoon at the hotel's small spa and outdoor hot tubs.

7

Departure

Final breakfast looking up at the towers from the lodge window, last walk in the meadow, and the 4.5-hour transfer back south to Punta Arenas for the late afternoon flight to Santiago.

Evaluación honesta

Lo que debe saber antes de reservar

!

Las Torres is a 4-star hotel not a 5-star resort — rooms and bathrooms are comfortable but not lavish, and there is no full-service luxury spa beyond a modest hot-tub and sauna setup.

!

The property accepts large hiking groups (refugio-style accommodation is on the same campus) so the public areas can feel busy at lunch and early evening — quietest at breakfast and after 9pm.

!

Service is friendly and family-style rather than the polished international standard of Tierra or Explora; couples wanting absolute luxury polish should book up to one of those instead.

FAQ

Preguntas frecuentes

Is Las Torres good for honeymooners?

For active honeymooners on a sensible budget — yes, the trailhead location is genuinely unmatched and the property has real soul (family-owned, conservation-led). For couples whose honeymoon priority is design, polished luxury, or champagne-poured service, choose Tierra, Explora, or Awasi instead.

How many nights?

Four nights minimum to do Mirador Las Torres, Grey Glacier, and either French Valley or an estancia day. Five is the comfortable sweet spot with a weather margin.

When to go?

Open October through April. December–February are warmest and longest days; March is calmer with autumn colours. Winter the lodge runs limited operations.

What's included?

Breakfast is included; meal plans and excursion packages can be added. The hotel works either as a base for self-guided park days (the trailhead is on-site) or as a packaged all-inclusive option similar to the luxury lodges. The à-la-carte route is the best value.

How do we get there?

Santiago (SCL) → Punta Arenas (PUQ) on LATAM or Sky, 3.5 hours, then a private 4.5-hour transfer north into the park to the trailhead. Buffer an overnight in Santiago at each end.

Trailhead location really that important?

Yes — the Mirador Las Torres hike is the single most iconic day in Patagonia, and starting the trail from your own hotel rather than driving 90 minutes to a trailhead each way means you can start earlier (best light, fewer crowds) and return more easily. For dedicated hikers this single advantage justifies the choice.
