El veredicto
¿Vale la pena para su luna de miel?
Remota is the architectural one-off of Puerto Natales — a 72-room boutique hotel designed by Chilean architect Germán del Sol (who also designed Explora across the park) as a deliberate homage to the region's vernacular: a low black-painted timber building referencing the Patagonian galpón (sheep shed) typology, set on a meadow facing the Última Esperanza fjord at the edge of town. Inside, the spaces are equally considered — a corridor lit through clerestory windows, an indoor lap pool with one glass wall facing the fjord, a library of Patagonian literature, and a kitchen that draws on the Magellanic seafood and Patagonian lamb canon at consistent five-star level. Remota is the only Puerto Natales hotel that competes architecturally and food-wise with the in-park lodges at significantly lower price, and the small-town base means evenings in Puerto Natales restaurants, bars, and the small wharf are a feature rather than a missed opportunity.

The 72 rooms split into Standard (smaller, with garden view) and Superior (larger, fjord view). Honeymooners should specifically request a Superior fjord-facing room on the upper level — the wider window, freestanding bathtub, and the morning light across the Última Esperanza sound make this the room. The hotel has a small number of Junior Suites with separate sitting areas worth the upgrade for longer stays.

Día a día
Su itinerario de luna de miel de 7 noches
Arrival in Puerto Natales
Fly Punta Arenas (PUQ), private 3-hour transfer north along Route 9 to Puerto Natales and Remota's meadow setting at the edge of town. Welcome drink at the bar, dinner of king crab and Patagonian lamb in the dramatic timbered dining room.
Balmaceda & Serrano Glaciers
The classic Puerto Natales fjord day — board the Cutter at the wharf five minutes from the hotel for the all-day cruise north up Última Esperanza to the Balmaceda waterfall and the receding Serrano glacier. Walk along the glacier's lateral moraine before lunch on board.
Torres del Paine Long Day
Full-day private excursion 1.5 hours north into Torres del Paine — depending on your fitness, either the gentle Mirador Cuernos and Salto Grande or the more ambitious Lake Pehoé loop. Return for an evening at Remota's indoor pool watching sunset light on the cordillera.
Town & Slow Day
A slower morning — coffee at one of Puerto Natales' new wave cafés, a stroll along the waterfront promenade, and visit the milodón cave (the Pleistocene-era ground-sloth site that inspired Bruce Chatwin's In Patagonia). Afternoon massage at Remota's spa and dinner back at the hotel.
Base Torres Hike Day
An ambitious option — pre-dawn departure with a guide to the Las Torres trailhead, the 19 km return to the granite-towers base lagoon, and a late return to Remota for a fjord-side hot tub. Day-trip Base Torres from Puerto Natales is long but very doable.
Horseback & Estancia
Half-day ride on an estancia outside Puerto Natales — quiet, gentle, with condors overhead. A long Patagonian lunch at the stables. Final evening at Remota, tasting menu in the timbered dining room.
Departure
Final breakfast looking across the fjord, a last walk in the meadow surrounding the hotel, and the 3-hour transfer south to Punta Arenas for the afternoon flight to Santiago.
Evaluación honesta
Lo que debe saber antes de reservar
Remota sits 1.5 hours from Torres del Paine — fine for one or two long park days but not the same as waking inside the park; for daily in-park immersion choose Tierra, Explora, Awasi, or Las Torres.
Puerto Natales is a working Patagonian town — charming, walkable, with good food, but not a polished resort setting; this is the appeal but worth knowing.
The architecture is austere by design — black timber, monastic corridors, restrained colour — which couples wanting a soft and plush boutique aesthetic may find too severe.

FAQ
Preguntas frecuentes
Is Remota good for honeymooners?
Very good for design-aware couples who want a working-town base, world-class architecture, the fjord at the door, and access to both Torres del Paine and the fjord glaciers — all at roughly half the per-night cost of the in-park luxury lodges. For couples wanting daily Paine massif views from bed, the in-park lodges are still the answer.
How many nights?
Four nights is the right minimum — two for the in-park days, two for the fjord and slower town rhythm. Five or six gives margin for weather and a deeper exploration of Puerto Natales' surprisingly good food scene.
When to go?
Open all year but most comfortable October through April. The hotel runs through winter with warm indoor pool and lounges, but most excursions and fjord cruises only operate in the warmer months.
What's included?
Breakfast and use of the indoor pool, sauna, and yoga classes are included. Meals (which are excellent), bar, excursions, and spa treatments are à la carte. The hotel can be booked as a B&B or with optional all-inclusive excursion packages.
How do we get there?
Santiago (SCL) → Punta Arenas (PUQ) on LATAM or Sky, 3.5 hours, then Remota's private 3-hour transfer north on the paved Route 9 to Puerto Natales. The hotel sits at the edge of town overlooking the fjord — five minutes by foot to the waterfront and ten to the centre.
Remota or The Singular?
Different — The Singular is at Puerto Bories 5 minutes north of town in a heritage industrial building with its own museum; Remota is a contemporary architectural hotel in a meadow at the south edge of town facing the fjord. The Singular is slightly more polished and lavish; Remota is more design-led, austere, and cheaper. Both are excellent Puerto Natales bases.
