The accommodation spreads across the village in restored heritage cottages and hillside lodge rooms, mostly with harbour or rainforest views. This is the choice for honeymooners doing the deep-Tasmania circuit — pairing with Cradle Mountain to the north and Hobart to the east — to access the Gordon River cruise and Sarah Island convict ruins (most remote convict settlement in Australia). The Gordon River cruise is one of the genuinely great experiences in Australia — six hours through ancient Huon pine rainforest reflecting in the tea-coloured river. Caveats: Strahan is 4.5h from Hobart on a winding mountain road. The village hotel is comfortable rather than five-star luxe. There is no spa.
