Marari Beach Resort is the most romantic honest-beach hotel in India — a CGH Earth property of 62 thatched coir-walled cottages scattered through coconut palm groves directly behind one kilometre of empty, undeveloped, palm-shaded beach. The hotel was built around the existing Marari fishing village rather than displacing it, and the boundary between guest grounds and village blurs delightfully: the fishermen pull their nets in 200 metres south of the pool, and the chemmeen-vala dawn catch arrives on the kitchen counter at 7am for the day\'s lunch menu. The beach itself is the kind that Bali had 50 years ago — wide, palm-shaded, with thatched fishermen\'s huts, and no high-rises permitted by local law.
