Le verdict

Cela vaut-il le coup pour votre voyage de noces ?

Mena House is the only hotel in Egypt where a Pyramid is in your bedroom window — a 1869 hunting lodge expanded into a 331-room resort whose original wing still feels like a Belle Époque film set, with the Great Pyramid of Khufu rising 600 metres beyond the gardens. For honeymooners who want the single most cinematic balcony view in Egypt, nothing else is close.

Recommandation de chambre

Quelle chambre réserver

Sélection d'expert
à partir de la fourchette $300–$900/nuit

Book a Pyramid View Room or, ideally, a Pyramid View Suite in the original Palace Wing — high ceilings, mashrabiya screens, the marble bath, and a balcony that frames the Great Pyramid head-on. Insist on Palace Wing (older, more atmospheric) over the newer Garden Wing; the difference is significant.

Jour par jour

Itinéraire de 7 nuits pour votre voyage de noces

1

Arrival & first sight of the Pyramids

Land at Cairo (CAI), the hotel sends a car for the 35-minute transfer to Giza. Check in to your Palace Wing Pyramid View Suite — open the balcony doors and the Great Pyramid is right there, framed by jacarandas. Welcome cocktail in the gardens at the 139th-anniversary lounge, then a casual first dinner at 139 Pavilion with the Pyramid lit up after dark. Early to bed.

2

Giza plateau & Sphinx with private Egyptologist

Walk-in entrance to the Pyramids site in 5 minutes — the hotel arranges a private Egyptologist for a 4-hour morning tour: Khufu (with optional inside-the-pyramid ticket), Khafre, Menkaure, the queens' pyramids, and the Sphinx. Back to the hotel by noon for a long pool lunch with the Pyramid still in view. Afternoon at the Spa, evening Pyramids Sound and Light show from the gardens.

3

Grand Egyptian Museum & Khufu's Solar Boat

Five-minute taxi to the Grand Egyptian Museum — Tutankhamun's full collection, the royal mummies, and the Khufu Solar Boat in the dedicated pavilion. Allow 4–5 hours. Lunch at one of the museum's cafés, back to the hotel for a swim, then dinner at Alfredo's — solid Italian in a colonial-style room with Pyramid views from the terrace.

4

Saqqara & Memphis day trip

Drive 30 minutes south to Saqqara for the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the Pyramid of Unas with its pyramid texts, the Imhotep Museum, and the painted tombs at the necropolis. Lunch at the Sakkara Country Club. Back via Memphis (the Ramses colossus and the alabaster sphinx). Dinner at Mughal Room — the only fine-dining Indian in Cairo, with rosewater desserts.

5

Citadel, Islamic Cairo & souk

Morning at Saladin's Citadel — Mohammed Ali Mosque and the panoramic view back to Giza. Then down to Islamic Cairo: Sultan Hassan, Al-Rifa'i, and a long lunch on a rooftop near Bab Zuweila. Afternoon at Khan El Khalili souk — antique shops, alabaster, and tea at El Fishawy café (open since 1773). Back to the hotel for a quiet courtyard dinner.

6

Camel ride at dawn & Pyramid Sound and Light

Pre-dawn camel ride out to the desert plateau behind the Pyramids for sunrise — 90 minutes, dramatic, photographs that will live forever. Long breakfast back at the hotel and a slow pool day. Afternoon spa couples' ritual, then dinner in the gardens during the Sound and Light show — the Sphinx's narration is corny but the Pyramids in laser-lit sequence is its own pleasure.

7

Farewell breakfast in the Palace gardens

Final breakfast on the Palace terrace with the Pyramid framed by bougainvillea, an hour by the pool, and a last walk through the gardens where Sadat, Begin, and Carter strolled during the 1978 peace negotiations. Late checkout, then the transfer to Cairo airport for the flight onward — most honeymooners pair this with a Red Sea or Aswan extension.

Évaluation honnête

Ce qu'il faut savoir avant de réserver

!

It is a Marriott now (the Marriott takeover modernised the chain elements while preserving the Palace Wing) — service can be inconsistent compared to Four Seasons or Oberoi. Use the concierge for everything; quality varies by who you get.

!

The Garden Wing rooms are functional but modern and generic — pay the upgrade for the Palace Wing or you will feel cheated of the property's atmosphere.

!

Giza traffic and dust are real; the immediate area outside the hotel is not pleasant for walking. Use cars for everything beyond the gardens and the Pyramids gate.

!

Light from the nightly Sound and Light show is visible from many rooms until 10pm — charming for some, intrusive for others. Request a quieter side if you are a light sleeper.

!

Cairo summer heat (June–September) makes Giza plateau visits punishing; visit only in the early morning if travelling in summer.

FAQ

Questions fréquentes

Is it good for honeymooners?

Yes — the Palace Wing Pyramid View Suites deliver one of the most iconic balcony views in the world, and the gardens are romantic and quiet. Honeymoon perks include sparkling wine on arrival and complimentary turn-down with rose petals on stays of 3+ nights.

Best time to visit?

October to April. November to early March is the sweet spot — daytime temperatures in the low 20s and clear skies. Avoid June–September for Giza plateau heat.

Should we book in advance?

Palace Wing Pyramid View Suites should be booked 3–4 months ahead for the December–February high season. The eight original Khedive suites need 6+ months.

Is it adults-only?

No, it accepts families. The Palace Wing tends to skew adult and couples; request a Palace Wing room and avoid the Garden Wing pool during school holidays.

Best room type for couples?

A Pyramid View Suite in the Palace Wing is the honeymoon pick. The Khedive Suite is the historic top-tier room if budget allows.

How do we get there?

Cairo International Airport (CAI) is 35 minutes by private car (longer in rush hour). The hotel arranges fast-track immigration and meet-and-greet on request. From the hotel, the Pyramids gate is a 5-minute walk.
