Le verdict

Cela vaut-il le coup pour votre voyage de noces ?

The Zahra is a 27-cabin floating boutique hotel that gives you the Nile, the temples, and a private butler in 7 nights — without changing rooms, packing once, or queuing for cruise-ship buffets. For honeymooners who want the full Egypt arc (Aswan to Luxor, every major temple) but refuse to compromise on bed quality, this is the most romantic way to do it.

Book a Luxury Suite on the upper deck — full-length picture windows, Egyptian-cotton bedding, marble bath with separate shower and tub, and a private terrace where you can have breakfast as the river slides past. The two top-deck Imperial Suites are larger and worth the upgrade if available, but every cabin on Zahra has river views.

Jour par jour

Itinéraire de 7 nuits pour votre voyage de noces

1

Embarkation in Luxor & Karnak by night

Arrive Luxor (LXR) by domestic flight from Cairo, transferred to the Zahra moored on the East Bank. Welcome lunch with cold karkadé on the sun deck as you settle into your suite. Late afternoon, the Egyptologist takes you to Karnak Temple at golden hour and into the early dusk — the obelisks of Hatshepsut and the hypostyle hall in low light are unforgettable. Welcome dinner on board.

2

Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut, Memnon — sail to Esna

Pre-dawn breakfast on your terrace, then ferry across to the West Bank for the Valley of the Kings (typically 3 tomb visits including Ramses VI, plus optional Tutankhamun add-on), the dramatic three-tiered temple of Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon. Back on board for lunch as the boat sails south, locking through Esna in the afternoon — locks are a slow theatrical event with bumboat vendors and fascinating engineering. Dinner under the stars on the sun deck.

3

Edfu Temple by horse-drawn carriage

Morning sail to Edfu, then a horse-drawn carriage ride through the dusty market town to the Ptolemaic Temple of Horus — one of the best-preserved temple complexes in Egypt. Back on board for a leisurely lunch as the boat continues south. Afternoon spa ritual for two — the on-board spa runs a hibiscus-and-frankincense couples' treatment. Dinner is an Egyptian banquet night with mezze, grilled meats, and live oud.

4

Kom Ombo at sunset & arrival in Aswan

Sail through the morning past riverside villages, water buffalo, and lateen-sail feluccas — sun deck with a book, pool dip, afternoon tea. Late afternoon docking at Kom Ombo for the dramatic twin temple of Sobek and Horus, lit by the setting sun. Back on board for dinner as the Zahra continues to Aswan, mooring overnight under the lights of the city.

5

Philae Temple, High Dam & Nubian village afternoon

Morning visit by motorboat to the Temple of Philae on Agilkia Island, then on to the Aswan High Dam and a brief stop at the Unfinished Obelisk in the granite quarry. Back to the Zahra for lunch. Afternoon optional excursion to a Nubian village on Elephantine Island for spice tea on a rooftop, henna, and traditional music. Sunset on the sun deck with a Nubian musician on board.

6

Abu Simbel excursion (optional) & farewell dinner sail

Optional pre-dawn flight or 4x4 to Abu Simbel for the Ramses II temples on Lake Nasser — strenuous but unforgettable. Those who skip it have a slow morning on board, late breakfast, spa, and the on-board cooking class for couples (Egyptian feteer or kunafa). Late-afternoon farewell sail downstream past Aswan, full dress dinner, and a galabeya costume night that is corny but charming.

7

Disembark in Luxor — Luxor Temple farewell

Final breakfast as the Zahra docks back at Luxor. Most guests have an afternoon flight, leaving time for a final guided visit to Luxor Temple (the colonnade is unmissable) before transfer to the airport. The boat handles everything — luggage, transfers, even fast-track at Luxor airport — so the day stays calm.

Évaluation honnête

Ce qu'il faut savoir avant de réserver

!

The all-inclusive price is high but it covers everything — flights to/from Cairo, all shore excursions, Egyptologist, gratuities, drinks (excluding premium spirits), and meals. Compare honestly against piecing it together yourself.

!

Cabins, while elegantly designed, are smaller than land-based five-star suites — this is a boat. Choose Luxury Suites or above for honeymoon-grade space.

!

The fixed itinerary means you cannot linger longer at a site you love or skip one — the Nile dictates the schedule.

!

Children are accepted but rare; the experience leans adult and culturally focused. Honeymooners and older couples dominate.

!

Summer (June–August) is intolerable for shore excursions in Upper Egypt; book October–April only.

FAQ

Questions fréquentes

Is it good for honeymooners?

Exceptionally — the Zahra is widely regarded as Egypt's most romantic Nile cruiser. Honeymoon perks include cabin upgrade based on availability, private dinner on the sun deck, and a couples' spa ritual.

Best time to visit?

October through April. November to early March is peak season with the most reliable weather and fullest sailings.

Should we book in advance?

Yes — Zahra runs only 27 cabins and frequently sells out 6–8 months in advance for honeymoon-season weeks. Imperial Suites can be booked a year ahead.

Is it adults-only?

No, but children are uncommon and the atmosphere is consistently adult and culturally focused. Demographics skew to honeymooners and well-travelled couples in their 40s–60s.

Best room type for couples?

A Luxury Suite on the upper deck is the honeymoon sweet spot. The two Imperial Suites are top-tier if available.

How do we get there?

Fly into Cairo (CAI), then connecting domestic to Luxor (LXR) where the Zahra is moored. Most packages include the domestic flights and transfers; confirm at booking.
