Le verdict

Cela vaut-il le coup pour votre voyage de noces ?

Pikaia Lodge is the most architecturally striking property in Galápagos and the best land-based option for couples who want once-in-a-lifetime wildlife without sleeping in a cabin at sea. Set on an extinct volcanic crater above Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island, the 14-suite design lodge floats on a 30-acre private giant-tortoise reserve where the prehistoric creatures wander the lawns of your morning coffee. What truly elevates Pikaia for honeymoons is the Pikaia I — a private 100-foot yacht reserved exclusively for lodge guests, which means you motor out to Bartolomé, North Seymour or South Plaza for snorkeling with sea lions and hammerheads, then return each night to a real bed, a butler-drawn bath, and a wine list. It is the rare Galápagos experience that feels equally adventurous and indulgent, and the only one where you can fall asleep watching tortoises graze under a rising moon.

Recommandation de chambre

Quelle chambre réserver

Sélection d'expert
à partir de la fourchette $1,200–$3,500/nuit

Book a Lodge Suite on the upper level for sweeping views down the volcanic crater toward the Pacific — floor-to-ceiling windows, a soaking tub positioned to catch the sunset, and a private terrace where butlers serve a sunset Champagne. The two Master Suites at the corners of the lodge add a second bedroom and significantly more living space; worth it for honeymooners staying five-plus nights.

Jour par jour

Itinéraire de 7 nuits pour votre voyage de noces

1

Quito Arrival

Land in Quito (UIO) and overnight at a colonial-quarter hotel to acclimatise to 9,300-foot altitude. Pikaia partners can arrange a tour of Old Town and a private dinner at one of the city's hacienda restaurants.

2

Fly to Galápagos

Morning flight to Baltra (GPS), national park entry processed on arrival ($200 per person). Pikaia transfers across the Itabaca Channel and up into the Santa Cruz highlands. Welcome lunch on the infinity-pool terrace and a quiet first afternoon spotting tortoises on the reserve.

3

Santa Cruz South Coast

Charles Darwin Research Station in the morning to meet the breeding-program tortoises, then a long walk into Tortuga Bay — the white-sand beach where marine iguanas and reef sharks share the shoreline. Late afternoon spa treatment and a tasting menu at the lodge.

4

Pikaia I Day Cruise — North Seymour

Board the lodge's private yacht for a full-day expedition to North Seymour Island. Magnificent and great frigatebirds, blue-footed boobies in courtship dance, and a deep-water snorkel with white-tipped reef sharks and sea lions. Onboard ceviche lunch and Champagne return.

5

Pikaia I Day Cruise — Bartolomé

A second day on the Pikaia I to iconic Bartolomé Island — the Pinnacle Rock view, a snorkel with Galápagos penguins, and a hike up the volcanic stairway to one of the most photographed panoramas in the archipelago. Sunset cocktails on deck.

6

Highlands & Lava Tunnels

Stay on Santa Cruz for a slower day — kayaking in the highland lava tunnels, a guided walk through the scalesia cloud-forest, and a long lunch at a highlands tortoise reserve where wild giants graze metres from your table. Couples' massage on return.

7

Farewell & Return

Final breakfast on the terrace, last tortoise stroll, and transfer back to Baltra for the afternoon flight to Quito or Guayaquil for international connections.

Évaluation honnête

Ce qu'il faut savoir avant de réserver

!

Galápagos National Park entry fee is $200 per person plus a $20 transit card, payable in cash on arrival at Baltra — keep receipts in case of inspection.

!

December through May is warmer with calmer seas (best for snorkeling); June through November is cooler and rougher but the wildlife concentration peaks. Pick your season for the species you most want to see.

!

Pikaia I day cruises run on rotating itineraries — confirm before booking which islands fall on your dates, as weather and park rotation can shift the schedule.

!

All wildlife excursions inside national park boundaries require a certified naturalist guide — Pikaia's guides are excellent, but you cannot wander reserve trails on your own.

FAQ

Questions fréquentes

Is Pikaia better than a Galápagos cruise for a honeymoon?

If you value comfort, privacy, a real bed, and a spa over maximum island count, yes — Pikaia plus the Pikaia I day cruises gives you the wildlife of three or four classic cruise islands while sleeping ashore in design suites with butler service.

Land-based or live-aboard cruise — how do we choose?

Cruises (Silver Origin, Ecoventura) reach the outer islands like Genovesa, Española, and Fernandina that day boats cannot. Pikaia covers central islands beautifully and is far more comfortable. Many couples now combine three nights at Pikaia with a four-night cruise.

Will we see giant tortoises and blue-footed boobies?

Tortoises — guaranteed; the Pikaia private reserve and highland ranches host them year-round. Blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds — almost certain on the North Seymour day. Penguins on Bartolomé are seasonal but common. Hammerheads are bonus encounters when conditions allow.

When is the best time to visit?

January–May for warm air, calm seas, and the green season; June–November for cooler weather, big seabird colonies, and whale shark sightings on outer islands. December and August are the busiest months.

How fit do we need to be?

Average fitness is fine — most excursions involve walking on uneven lava and moderate snorkeling. Pikaia's guides adjust to ability. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a thin wetsuit for cooler-season snorkels.

How do we get there?

International flights connect through Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE), then a 2-hour LATAM or Avianca flight to Baltra (GPS). Pikaia arranges all transfers, including the Itabaca Channel ferry and the highland drive.
