Fly from Bali (approximately one hour) or Jakarta to Komodo Airport at Labuan Bajo. A short resort transfer delivers you to Plataran Komodo, set above the bay on the edge of Flores town. Check in and immediately be struck by the view: dozens of karst islands rising from a sea of impossible blue, with local fishing boats drifting between them. This is one of Indonesia's most dramatic landscapes.
Komodo Island & The Dragons
Rise early for the boat trip to Komodo Island — one of only two places on earth where Komodo dragons live wild. A park ranger guides you along the forest trail, pointing out the massive lizards sunbathing near the ranger station and patrolling the dry river bed. The dragons are genuinely prehistoric in scale: adults reach three metres and 70 kilograms. Return to the resort awed.
