The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Adare Manor is the Irish luxury hotel that has overtaken Ashford as the country's most polished property — a 19th-century neo-Gothic manor on a 840-acre estate in Adare village, County Limerick, that emerged from a $120 million McManus-family restoration in 2017 with arguably the best service in Ireland and a redesigned Tom Fazio golf course chosen to host the 2027 Ryder Cup. The 104 rooms and suites split between the original manor (Manor Wing, romantic, with fireplaces and four-posters) and the newer Garden Wing (contemporary, larger, with terraces over the River Maigue). The Oak Room restaurant has held a Michelin star since 2018; the Tack Room is the more relaxed alternative with the open fire and Irish stew that lands in every guest's memory. The spa is the most ambitious in Ireland — a full thermal circuit, indoor pool with a vaulted timber ceiling, and treatment rooms in the original chapel space. What separates Adare from Ashford is the front-of-house operation: Adare's GM trained at Singita and the staff-per-guest ratio is the highest in the country. The thatched village of Adare (one of Ireland's prettiest, 5 min walk from the gates) provides the storybook-Ireland backdrop without being a tourist trap. Shannon Airport is 30 minutes away — many US East Coast couples land at SNN, transfer directly, and don't see Dublin at all. The honeymoon-best move is the 5-night package: two nights in a Manor Wing suite for the castle drama, then three nights in a Garden Wing terrace suite for spa and golf. The Ryder Cup year (2027) is already heavily booked.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $1,000–$4,000/night range

A Manor Wing Junior Suite with working fireplace, four-poster, and views over the front lawn is the romantic move. The Stable Suite (a converted estate-cottage with private garden) is for couples wanting standalone privacy. The Dunraven Suite is the showstopper — the family's original master, with private terrace and butler. Avoid standard Garden Wing rooms if you want castle atmosphere; the manor wing is where the magic is.

5

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

Adare is firmly five-star expensive — even Manor Wing standard rooms are $1,000+ in season; the suites and Stable houses are double that.

!

Ryder Cup 2027 (September) will close the property to the public; rates either side of the event are spiking now and will continue to.

!

Not adults-only, but the property is large enough that families don't impact couples. Vibe stays adult-skewing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Good for honeymooners?

Adare is the most polished honeymoon hotel in Ireland — service exceeds Ashford on the operations side, and the spa, Oak Room dining, and championship golf give honeymooners more on-site to do.

Best time to visit?

May, June, and September are ideal — long days, low rain, full estate access. September 2027 will be the Ryder Cup; avoid that week unless you're attending. Winter at Adare is festive and quieter; their Christmas Manor package is particularly romantic.

Book in advance?

Manor Wing suites must be booked 9–12 months ahead for May–September. Email reservations directly with your specific suite preferences.

Adults-only?

No, but the layout and rate point skew strongly adult/couples.

Best room type?

A Manor Wing Junior Suite (working fireplace, four-poster). For maximum splurge, the Dunraven Suite. Stable Suite for standalone privacy with a private garden.

How to get there?

Shannon Airport (SNN) is 30 minutes by chauffeur transfer — direct flights from Boston, JFK, Newark, Chicago, London. Adare arranges transfers ($150 one-way) or a helicopter pad on the estate for $1,500.
