The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Cromlix is the most photogenic small luxury hotel in Perthshire — a Victorian sandstone mansion built in 1880 in 34 acres of woodland on the edge of the village of Dunblane, owned since 2013 by the tennis player Andy Murray (who got married there) and operated as a 15-room boutique country-house hotel with the Glasshouse restaurant overseen by chef Albert Roux until his death in 2021 (and now by his successors at the Roux family group). The honeymoon proposition is the scale — fifteen rooms is one-fifteenth of Gleneagles — and the intimacy of the public rooms: a drawing room with working fireplace and Murray’s framed Wimbledon shirt, a library with antique chess sets, a chapel in the grounds that hosts weddings most weekends (book away from those), and a tennis court (genuinely playable) on the lawn. The Glasshouse restaurant has its own conservatory dining room with garden views; the kitchen is one of the most consistent in Scotland at this scale. Bedrooms are individually decorated in country-house tradition — four-posters, Victorian fireplaces, deep claw-foot baths in many. The honeymoon move is the Master Suite (the largest, with a separate sitting room and the best garden view) and 4 nights minimum. The location is excellent for a Highland-perimeter honeymoon: 45 minutes from Edinburgh, 1h from Glasgow, 1h from Gleneagles, 2h to the start of the Highlands — making Cromlix the ideal first or last stop on a Scottish honeymoon route. The caveats are real: Cromlix is on the small side and books many weddings (verify your dates are wedding-free); it lacks a spa and pool; and the village of Dunblane is functional rather than scenic. But for couples who want a 15-room Scottish country house run with serious culinary ambition and zero corporate feel, Cromlix is the call.

Room Recommendation
Which room to book
The Master Suite (largest room, separate sitting area, garden-facing four-poster, claw-foot bath) is the honeymoon room. For a smaller budget, any of the Deluxe rooms in the main house gives you four-poster grandeur and a real fireplace. Skip the Cromlix Lodge rooms (separate building) — they’re fine but you lose the mansion experience.

Honest Assessment
What to know before you book
Cromlix hosts many weddings (the chapel in the grounds is a draw) — verify your dates are wedding-free or you may share the property with a wedding party.
No spa building — in-suite treatments only. No pool or thermal facilities.
The village of Dunblane is functional rather than scenic — the honeymoon experience is entirely inside the estate gates.
