Glenapp Castle is the most consistently celebrated luxury castle hotel in southern Scotland — a Scottish baronial pile built in 1870 for the Hunter family of Ayrshire, set in 36 acres of woodland and walled garden 90 minutes south of Glasgow on the Ayrshire coast, Relais & Châteaux since 2001, holding the Azalea Restaurant’s Michelin star since 2022 and reliably ranked in the UK’s top ten country-house hotels. Glenapp is on the Ayrshire coast, not the Highlands — if your honeymoon image is dramatic Highland scenery, this is the wrong castle. Pair with Inverlochy or Torridon for the Highland half.
No spa building — treatments are delivered in-suite by visiting therapists. Excellent quality but no thermal facilities or pool.
