The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Curringa Farm is a 750-acre working sheep farm in the Derwent Valley, 90 minutes north of Hobart, with 5 self-contained guest cottages overlooking the farm dam and rolling pasture. It is the most honest agricultural-tourism experience in Tasmania — Tim and Jane Parsons have run the family farm here for four generations, and guests get a genuine working-farm-stay experience (sheep shearing demonstrations, optional, are extraordinary) rather than a packaged-rustic luxury aesthetic. The cottages are simple but immaculate — king bed, log fire, full kitchen, deck overlooking the dam where you can swim in summer. Breakfast hampers delivered to the cottage. Caveats: no on-site restaurant; the nearest dining is in Hamilton (10 min) or self-catering. There is no spa, no concierge. For honeymooners who want a few nights of total isolation in working farm country between Hobart and Cradle Mountain, with the option to participate in genuine farm life, this is the most authentic stay in Tasmania. Pair with city Hobart or Cradle Mountain Lodge to round out the trip.
