The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Foxhill Manor is the most romantic small hotel in the Cotswolds and one of the very best country-house experiences in Europe — eight bedrooms in an Edwardian gabled manor on the 400-acre Farncombe Estate above Broadway, run on a deliberately house-party model with no printed menus, no formal restaurant, no check-in desk, no rules. You arrive, you're shown your suite, you tell the kitchen what you fancy for dinner, you eat it in the dining room with the other guests around a single table or alone by the fire in the snug. The chef cooks to your specification and changes course mid-week. The bar is an honesty bar — pour your own drinks, write what you took in a book. The whole property feels like staying with friends in their large country house, except the friends are exceptionally good hosts, the wine cellar is serious, and the breakfast is the best in Britain. The honeymoon proposition is the intimacy: with only eight rooms (often fully bought-out for weddings — confirm at booking), the staff-to-guest ratio is extraordinary, and the lack of structure means you genuinely set your own pace. The Farncombe Estate also includes Dormy House (more conventional 4-star country hotel with spa) and The Fish (fishing-lodge-themed boutique with shepherd's huts) — Foxhill Manor guests can use both spas, which solves the only real Foxhill weakness (no on-site spa). The position on the Cotswold escarpment above Broadway with the view across the Vale of Evesham is the best in the region. The caveats are real: this is a small property, often booked exclusively for weddings or family parties — your honeymoon window depends on availability. There's no spa on-site (you walk down the hill to Dormy House — 5 minutes by buggy). And the no-menu model requires couples who enjoy talking to the chef and other guests, not honeymooners wanting silent room-service privacy. For the right couples, Foxhill is the most romantic hotel in England. The honeymoon move is five nights, a Hilltop Suite with the Vale view, a chef's table dinner on night one, a fireside dinner for two in the library on night two, breakfast on your terrace every morning, and the long Cotswold Way walk from your front door.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $1,100–$3,800/night range

A Hilltop Suite (Apollo or Mercury) on the south side — large rooms with full-height windows facing the Vale of Evesham, four-poster beds, freestanding baths, log fires. The Master Suite is the largest with a separate dressing room. Avoid the smaller north-facing rooms — they're lovely but lose the Foxhill view. The Garden Suite is the ground-floor pick for older couples who don't want stairs.

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

Foxhill Manor is often booked exclusively for weddings and family parties — confirm honeymoon dates well ahead and ask whether you'll be sharing with a wedding group.

!

There is no spa on the Foxhill property — you walk or buggy 5 minutes to Dormy House for treatments. Fine but not what some honeymoon couples expect.

!

The no-menu, communal-dining model requires sociability. Couples wanting silent room-service privacy should choose Lime Wood or Cowley Manor instead.

Subject: Honeymoon inquiry — Foxhill Manor

Dear Foxhill Manor reservations,

We're planning our honeymoon for [DATES] and would love to stay 5 nights in a Hilltop Suite (Apollo or Mercury preferred for the Vale view).

Questions:
1. Honeymoon arrival turndown (champagne, fireside table for two)?
2. Are any weddings booked across our dates that we would share the house with?
3. Chef's table dinner first night, and a fireside dinner for two in the library second night?
4. Dormy House spa couples' treatment booking?
5. Chauffeur transfer from London Heathrow or Moreton-in-Marsh?

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Good for honeymooners?

Foxhill Manor is one of the most romantic hotels in Europe — the intimacy, the lack of structure, the staff ratio, the view across the Vale of Evesham. Best for couples who want a country-house-party feel rather than a luxury-hotel feel.

Best time to visit?

May, June, and September are the prime windows — long days, full Cotswold walks open, dry weather. October for the autumn colour and fires lit. December for the Farncombe Christmas programme with carol singers and Boxing Day hunt meet.

Book in advance?

Hilltop Suites for May-September: 6-9 months. Master Suite books out 9-12 months ahead. Wedding bookouts can lock entire weeks — check availability early.

Adults-only?

No formally, but the no-toy, library-and-honesty-bar model means families rarely book. The guest mix skews overwhelmingly to couples and small adult parties.

Best room type?

Hilltop Suite (Apollo or Mercury) with the Vale view and four-poster. Master Suite for the largest space. Garden Suite for ground floor. Skip the smaller north-facing rooms.

How to get there?

London Heathrow 90 min drive, London Paddington train to Moreton-in-Marsh 90 min then 20 min taxi, or to Honeybourne 100 min then 15 min taxi. The property arranges transfers from either station and Heathrow.
