Freycinet Lodge, Coles Bay
tasmania, australia · ★★★★
The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Freycinet Lodge is the only accommodation inside Freycinet National Park — the same Coles Bay peninsula that hosts Saffire next door. 60 cabins and pavilions on the bay, operated by Peppers (RACT), at roughly a third of Saffire's rate. The Coastal Pavilions tier — 9 standalone units launched in 2018 with deck, fireplace, freestanding bath, and direct Hazards view — are genuinely honeymoon-grade and the reason serious honeymooners consider Freycinet Lodge as a Saffire alternative. The main lodge restaurant Bay does straight-up serious Tasmanian fare. Walking trails leave directly from the property — Wineglass Bay lookout is 1h walk from your cabin. Caveats: the standard Cabin tier is functional rather than romantic and should be skipped. The lodge doesn't do all-inclusive like Saffire — meals and activities are à la carte. There is no spa beyond room treatments. But for honeymooners who want the Wineglass Bay setting at a third of Saffire prices, with a Coastal Pavilion booked, this is the smart play.

Which room to book
Coastal Pavilion (one of 9 standalone units, 80 m², freestanding bath on the deck, fireplace, direct Hazards mountain view). Premier Cabins are acceptable upgrades. Avoid standard Cabins — they're functional rather than romantic.
