The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Le Meridien Bora Bora sits on Motu Tape on the eastern side of the lagoon with arguably the most dramatic Mount Otemanu view of any Bora Bora resort — Otemanu looms directly across the water from every overwater bungalow. The resort's signature is its lagoonarium, a fenced natural swimming area that functions as a turtle sanctuary where sea turtles are rehabilitated and released. You can snorkel with them, which is the memory most guests take home. 99 overwater bungalows have big glass floor panels (these are the largest glass floors on the island — practically a window to the lagoon from the bed), and the interiors were updated in the last few years to a clean, modern palette. The infinity pool looking straight at Otemanu is a postcard. The beach is good but smaller and more sheltered than at Hilton or Pearl. Service is solid Marriott standard — professional rather than intimate — and pricing is typically 15-25% below Four Seasons and St. Regis for very comparable product. Bonvoy members can redeem points, which makes this the smartest award redemption on Bora Bora. Ideal for honeymooners who prioritize the view of Otemanu and the turtle experience over intimate boutique service.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $800–$2,800/night range

Book an Otemanu View Overwater Villa — this is the money room, with the mountain filling the entire view from your deck and bed. The Premium Overwater Villa with plunge pool is a worthwhile upgrade for milestone honeymoons. Avoid garden-view categories: the whole point of Le Meridien is the Otemanu panorama.

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

The beach is smaller and more protected than at Hilton or Pearl — fine for a swim but not a long beach walk.

!

Dining can feel corporate compared with boutique alternatives.

!

Food and drink pricing is high; the half-board package helps.

!

The turtle sanctuary rehabilitation program occasionally means fewer turtles on-site depending on the release cycle.

!

Some overwater bungalows back onto the motu itself — specify 'end of pontoon' for deepest water and most privacy.
