The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Mandarin Oriental Singapore is the city's quietest five-star giant — a 527-room fan-shaped tower at Marina Square, sitting on the curve of the bay opposite Marina Bay Sands, with what is arguably the single best harbour view in Singapore. Every room is angled at 45 degrees so that 80% of the inventory looks directly onto the bay and the Sands — meaning that the iconic photograph (the three Sands towers across the water, lit at night) is from your room rather than from the rooftop bar. The hotel underwent a $50 million renovation through 2021 and emerged with a contemporary, restrained design — Mandarin Oriental's house style of cream marble, dark walnut, soft Asian textiles — that fits the genuinely calm, adult atmosphere. This is not Sands' party energy or Capella's resort feel; it is the most refined urban Asian five-star in the city. For honeymooners, the dining is the secret weapon: Cherry Garden (Cantonese, lacquered) is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city; Dolce Vita (Italian, by the outdoor pool) does the most romantic poolside lunch in Singapore; and the 25th-floor MO Bar with the harbour panorama is one of the best sundown cocktail spots in Asia. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental — 14,000 sq ft on the 5th floor — is among the city's two or three finest, with couples' suites with private bath. The pool: a 25-metre outdoor lap pool surrounded by frangipani trees at podium level, with the Sands across the water — the second-best hotel pool view in Singapore (after the Sands SkyPark itself). The honeymoon room moves: the Premier Marina Bay Room (493 sq ft) is the value pick with the direct Sands view; the Club Marina Bay rooms add the 21st-floor MO Lounge with breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening canapés; and the Oriental Suite (1,389 sq ft) is the destination splurge with a private balcony and butler. Caveats: not as iconic as Raffles or Sands; the building is large; and the Marina Square location, while perfectly walkable to the Sands, the Esplanade, and the financial district, is a 15-minute walk to Raffles and 25 minutes to Chinatown. But for couples who want the polished, calm, adult side of Singapore — and the single most photographed harbour view — Mandarin Oriental is the smart choice the locals make.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $480–$7,800/night range

The Premier Marina Bay Room (493 sq ft) on the 18th floor or higher is the sweet spot — the iconic Sands view across the water, MO's classic contemporary design. For the lounge upgrade, the Club Marina Bay room adds the MO Lounge access (breakfast, afternoon tea, evening canapés) and is the best-value club tier in Singapore. For honeymoon splurge, the Oriental Suite with its corner balcony. Avoid the lower floors (5–10) — the view is blocked by the Esplanade theatres.

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

Not as iconic as Raffles or Sands — the trade-off is calmer, more adult atmosphere.

!

Marina Square location is 15-minute walk to Raffles, 25 to Chinatown — taxi for evenings.

!

Pool is solid but not the Sands' SkyPark — the view is the equaliser.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Good for honeymooners?

One of the most refined adult-leaning hotels in Singapore. The Sands view from your bed, the MO Bar at sunset, and Cherry Garden dinner make it a strong honeymoon choice.

Best time to visit?

February–April and July for dry weather. Avoid November–January monsoon and the mid-September F1 weekend (premium rates, road closures around Marina Bay).

Book in advance?

Premier Marina Bay rooms 1–2 months ahead. Club Marina Bay rooms 3+ months for peak season. Oriental Suite books 6+ months out.

Adults-only?

No, but the property skews adult and business. School-holiday family presence exists but is concentrated at the pool. The Club tier is overwhelmingly adult.

Best room type?

Premier Marina Bay 18th floor+ for the iconic Sands view at the value point. Club Marina Bay for the lounge upgrade. Oriental Suite for the splurge.

How to get there?

Changi (SIN) is 25 minutes by Grab (S$30) or 22 minutes by MRT (Promenade station, 5-minute walk). Hotel BMW transfer is S$180.
