Le verdict

Cela vaut-il le coup pour votre voyage de noces ?

Scalesia Galapagos Lodge is the eco-pioneer of Isabela Island and the most distinctive small lodge on the less-developed side of the archipelago. Sixteen luxury safari tents are scattered through a private reserve of scalesia trees — the giant Galápagos daisy, an endemic species that grows nowhere else on earth — with hardwood platforms, king beds, claw-foot tubs, and verandas opening onto a forest where finches and mockingbirds wake you in the morning. The lodge runs on full-board rates that include daily naturalist-led excursions, which makes pricing far more honest than à-la-carte hotels: your week of Sierra Negra hikes, Los Tuneles snorkels, and Tintoreras walks is built into the rate. For honeymooners who like the safari-tent format and want to base on Isabela rather than Santa Cruz, Scalesia is the right answer. It is less polished than Galápagos Safari Camp but much closer to the volcanic action — the Sierra Negra crater is a 30-minute drive from your bed.

Recommandation de chambre

Quelle chambre réserver

Sélection d'expert
à partir de la fourchette $400–$1,100/nuit

Book a Forest Tent on the upper edge of the property for the deepest scalesia-canopy view and the quietest morning birdsong. The two newer Honeymoon Tents have the largest decks and a freestanding outdoor tub set among the trees — worth the upgrade for couples celebrating. Avoid the lower tents nearest the dining pavilion if you are a light sleeper; they are lovely but pick up evening voices.

Jour par jour

Itinéraire de 7 nuits pour votre voyage de noces

1

Quito to Isabela

Overnight Quito for altitude. Morning flight to Baltra (GPS), park entry $200 per person, then small-plane charter (Emetebe) direct to Isabela — 30 minutes versus the 4-hour ferry route. Lodge transfer up into the highlands and a welcome cocktail at the open-air bar.

2

Sierra Negra Volcano

Full-day guided hike up Sierra Negra, one of the largest volcanic calderas on earth at six miles wide, then onto the Volcán Chico flow for a black-glass lava-field walk with sweeping views to Fernandina across the channel. Lunch at a working highland farm on the way back.

3

Los Tuneles Snorkel

Boat trip to Los Tuneles — the iconic lava-arch formations off Isabela's south coast. Snorkeling with sea turtles, white-tipped reef sharks resting in caves, seahorses, blue-footed boobies on the rocks, and the tame Galápagos penguin colony at Las Tintoreras.

4

Tintoreras & Wall of Tears

Half-day at Las Tintoreras for a marine-iguana colony walk and a snorkel with reef sharks; afternoon bicycle ride along the coast to the Wall of Tears monument and the flamingo lagoon. Sundowner at the lodge pool deck.

5

Tortoise Reserve & Highlands

Slower day on Isabela — guided morning at the Arnaldo Tupiza giant-tortoise breeding centre, an afternoon hike into the Cerro Mango lookout for a panoramic crater view, and a long farm-table lunch with produce from the lodge gardens.

6

Beach Day & Spa

A relaxed full day at Puerto Villamil's white-sand beach with paddleboards and snorkel time, a couples' massage at the lodge spa pavilion, and a private candlelit dinner served on the tent deck under the stars.

7

Farewell & Return

Final breakfast on the open-air deck, a last forest walk through the scalesia, and small-plane charter back to Baltra for the afternoon flight to Quito or Guayaquil.

Évaluation honnête

Ce qu'il faut savoir avant de réserver

!

Galápagos National Park entry fee is $200 per person plus a $20 INGALA transit card — pay in cash at Baltra on arrival.

!

The lodge is in the Isabela highlands, cooler and wetter than the coast — pack a light fleece and a waterproof shell year-round, especially June–November.

!

Reaching Isabela by small-plane charter (recommended) versus public ferry from Santa Cruz (2 hours, rough) is a meaningful comfort difference — book the charter for honeymoons.

!

December–May is warm with calm seas (best Los Tuneles snorkeling); June–November is cooler, choppier, and sometimes cancels boat excursions on swell days.

!

All park excursions require a certified naturalist guide — Scalesia includes them in full-board rates but private upgrades are billed separately.

!

No diving in the 24 hours before an outbound flight from Baltra — schedule the final excursion accordingly.

FAQ

Questions fréquentes

Is Scalesia good for a honeymoon?

Yes — for couples drawn to the safari-tent format, an eco-conscious operator, and the volcanic drama of Isabela. The 16-tent intimacy, included excursions, and forest-canopy setting make it the most romantic land-based stay outside Santa Cruz.

Why Isabela over Santa Cruz?

Isabela is larger, less developed, and more authentically Galápagos. The Sierra Negra volcano hike is the best in the archipelago, Los Tuneles is the best snorkel day, and the village of Puerto Villamil has a fraction of Puerto Ayora's tourist crowds.

Will we see specific wildlife?

Marine iguanas — guaranteed everywhere on Isabela. Galápagos penguins on Tuneles and Tintoreras snorkels. Flamingos in the village lagoon. Giant tortoises at the breeding centre and on highland walks. Blue-footed boobies on Tuneles. Sea turtles on every snorkel.

Land-based on Isabela or a cruise — which suits us?

If you want comfort, beach time, the volcano hike, and the best snorkel day in Galápagos without sleeping at sea, Scalesia is right. If you want maximum islands and outer-archipelago wildlife, choose a cruise (Silver Origin or Ecoventura). Many couples combine three Scalesia nights with four cruise nights.

When is the best time to visit?

December–May for warm seas and reliable Los Tuneles snorkeling; June–November for cool dry hiking weather and Sierra Negra at clearest visibility. March and November are sweet spots for honeymooners.

How do we get there?

Fly Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra (GPS, 2 hours). Then either a 30-minute small-plane charter from Baltra to Isabela (Emetebe or Fly Galapagos, recommended) or the 90-minute Santa Cruz drive plus 2-hour public speedboat from Puerto Ayora.
