The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Amankora Gangtey is the most dramatically sited of all the Aman lodges in Bhutan — a glass-walled pavilion overlooking the remote Phobjikha valley, where black-necked cranes winter on the floor of a U-shaped glacial bowl. Just 8 suites and the longest road journey of any Aman make this the deep-Himalaya lodge for honeymooners who want true wilderness with their luxury.

Room Recommendation
Which room to book
All 8 suites are identical, each with a bukhari fireplace, soaking tub, and floor-to-ceiling glass facing the valley. There is no upgrade — the lodge itself is the splurge. Request a suite at either end of the row for the most privacy.

Honest Assessment
What to know before you book
Phobjikha sits at 3,000m — arrive via Punakha or Thimphu rather than direct from Paro to acclimatize.
Black-necked cranes only winter here November-March — visit in those months for the signature wildlife experience.
The drive from Punakha is 3-4 hours on winding mountain roads; bring motion-sickness remedies if you're sensitive.
Sustainable Development Fee of $200 per person per night applies, and the Aman tour-operator visa takes 4-6 weeks.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Amankora Gangtey good for honeymooners?
Yes — for couples who want wilderness and silence as their backdrop. The 8-suite scale, glass-walled lodge, and remote valley setting create a meditative, romantic atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Bhutan.
When is the best time to visit?
November-February for the black-necked cranes and crisp blue skies. March-May for rhododendrons. Avoid monsoon June-August for the Phobjikha drive.
How far in advance should we book?
Six months — with only 8 suites, Gangtey is one of the hardest lodges to secure, especially crane season.
Do we need a guide?
Yes, mandatory under Bhutanese tourism rules. Aman provides a licensed guide and driver throughout your stay.
What's the best room type?
All 8 suites are identical. Request an end-of-row suite for the most quiet.
How do we get to Amankora Gangtey?
Fly to Paro, then drive 5-6 hours via Thimphu and Punakha, or break the journey overnight at Amankora Punakha. Aman includes all transfers.
