The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Amankora Punakha is the most cinematic of all five Aman lodges in Bhutan — just 8 suites reached on foot via a swaying suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu river. The sub-tropical valley climate, terraced rice fields, and total seclusion make this the most romantic stop on a multi-lodge Aman journey, ideal for the heart of a honeymoon.

Bhutan visa requires a licensed tour operator — Aman includes this, but plan 4-6 weeks ahead.
Sustainable Development Fee of $200 per person per night applies.
The suspension bridge approach is genuinely scenic but can feel exposed in monsoon (June-August) when the river runs high.
Internet is minimal across Amankora lodges by design — bring a paperback or two.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Amankora Punakha good for honeymooners?
It's the most romantic Aman in Bhutan — 8 suites, total seclusion, the suspension bridge entrance, and the Chimi Lhakhang fertility temple nearby make it a natural choice for the heart of a honeymoon.
When is the best time to visit?
October-March for warm sub-tropical days and crisp nights, or April-May for spring blossoms. The valley is significantly warmer than Paro or Thimphu year-round.
How far in advance should we book?
With only 8 suites, Punakha is the hardest Amankora to book. Aim for 6 months ahead, especially around festivals and shoulder seasons.
Do we need a guide?
Yes — Bhutanese law requires a licensed guide and driver for all foreign visitors, included in the Aman package.
What's the best room type?
All 8 suites are the same. Request a river-facing position for the most romantic outlook.
How do we get to Amankora Punakha?
Fly into Paro, then drive 3.5 hours via Thimphu and the Dochula Pass. Aman handles all transfers and the final approach is on foot across the suspension bridge.
