Bela Vista is the heritage gem of the central Algarve — a 38-room Belle Époque mansion built in 1903 directly on Praia da Rocha cliff in Portimão, restored in 2012 by the Lapwing Estates group with sympathetic contemporary additions. The historic main villa and the new wing share a clifftop infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic. The restaurant Vista (one Michelin star, chef João Oliveira) is one of the great Algarve dining experiences. The spa is small but excellent. The Praia da Rocha beach is directly below via cliff staircase. Caveats: at 38 rooms it is genuinely boutique — book early. Praia da Rocha town outside the hotel is touristy. The historic mansion rooms have heritage quirks (narrow doors, varied bath configurations); the new-wing rooms are larger but lack character. For honeymooners who want a small-luxury heritage cliff-top Algarve experience with Michelin food, this is the most personal choice.
