Worth it for your honeymoon?
Vila Joya is a 20-room adults-only boutique hotel above Joachim Koerper and Dieter Koschina's two-Michelin-star restaurant on the cliff at Praia Galé. It is the smallest, most personal, food-driven luxury hotel on the Algarve — a former private villa converted by the Jung family in the 1980s and operated continuously with one of the most loyal repeat-guest networks in European luxury. The restaurant is the headline (one of the half-dozen finest meals in Iberia), but the 20 rooms are quietly excellent — most with direct ocean view, all with terraces. The Aja spa is small and personal. The cliff-edge pool is among the most photographed in Europe. Caveats: 20 rooms means availability is tight. The food is the point — if you don't care about Michelin cooking, choose Vila Vita or Bela Vista. Family-of-house atmosphere is warm but not formal-five-star. The location is residential rather than dramatically wild.
