The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Hotel Cubo is the design-led boutique that Ljubljana needed — a 26-room hotel on a quiet corner two blocks from Plečnik\'s Triple Bridge and the riverside cafés that define the city. The aesthetic is deliberate, restrained, and Scandinavian-influenced: dark wood, white linen, walnut accents, hand-thrown ceramic, and a quiet ground-floor restaurant (Cubo Restaurant) that has a faithful following among Ljubljana locals as well as guests. The location is the unbeatable advantage — you walk out the front door and within 90 seconds you are at the river, at the market, at Atelje (the best modern Slovenian tasting menu in the city), or at the funicular up to the castle. For a honeymoon couple this is the right Ljubljana base for 2 nights bookending a Bled stay. It is not the hotel for wellness or a pool day (there is no spa, no pool — this is a city hotel), and the rooms are sized for European city standards rather than American resort comfort. But for atmosphere, location, food, and the chance to do a proper European city honeymoon without staying at a Marriott, Cubo gets every detail right. Pair it with 3–4 nights at Bled and 1–2 in Bohinj or Jezersko for the full Slovenia.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $180–$400/night range

A Junior Suite — wider room, separate seating area, river-side view through narrow streets. For a slight splurge the Premium Suite adds a small terrace. Avoid the smallest standard rooms; while perfectly designed, they are tight for two with luggage.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Hotel Cubo really better than Vander Urbani Resort?

Slightly more design-led; Vander has a small rooftop plunge pool. Both are valid Ljubljana boutique choices.

Where should we eat in Ljubljana?

Atelje for the tasting-menu dinner, Strelec at the castle for sunset, the market for lunch, Ek bistro for the best riverside lunch, Vodnikova klet for traditional Slovenian.

How far is it from the airport?

25 minutes by taxi (€30) or pre-booked shuttle (€15/person). Ljubljana is one of the smallest, friendliest European capitals — no airport stress.

Can we walk everywhere?

Yes — Ljubljana centre is pedestrianised. Triple Bridge, market, castle funicular, all within 5 minutes on foot from Cubo.

Children?

Allowed but rare — this is a city design hotel that suits couples and design travellers.

When is the best time?

April through October. Summer is buzziest. December has lovely Christmas markets along the river. Avoid January–February as the city goes quiet.
