The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Vila Planinka is the off-grid alpine alternative to a Bled-centric honeymoon — a 12-room boutique design hotel in the remote Jezersko valley, 90 minutes east of Bled, hidden in a fold of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps where almost no foreign traveller goes. The building is a beautifully restored 1930s villa that local design studio OFIS architects gave a contemporary intervention without erasing the character: blackened larch cladding, hand-thrown ceramic, locally sourced wool blankets, vertical larch panels framing the mountain views. There are no televisions. The owner-couple cook a daily-changing tasting menu in the open kitchen using ingredients foraged or farmed within walking distance — the kind of restaurant Hiša Franko would respect. The spa is small but excellent: outdoor wood-fired hot tub on a deck, sauna with mountain view, and a wild-water plunge pool. For a honeymoon couple this is the right hotel if your priority is silence, design, and a sense of having discovered something — the Jezersko valley itself has perhaps 300 inhabitants. The Julian Alps cousin, the Kamnik–Savinja range, frames every window. It is not the iconic-lake-postcard honeymoon (that\'s Bled). It is the deep-decompression alternative. Combine 2 nights here with 3 nights at Vila Bled and 2 nights in Ljubljana and you have an extraordinary week.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $350–$900/night range

A Premium Mountain Suite — top floor, panoramic windows onto the alps, walk-in shower, fireplace. For a splurge the Owner\'s Suite is the size of a small apartment with private terrace and hot tub. Avoid the smaller standard rooms; the views are the entire reason to be here.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How remote is it really?

Genuinely remote — a single road into the valley, no shops within 20 minutes. The point is the silence.

Is dinner only available at the hotel?

Yes — and it\'s the highlight. The set tasting menu changes daily based on what\'s foraged or farmed locally. Half-board is the right move.

Can we do day trips from here?

Yes — Logarska Dolina (a glacial valley walk) is 45 minutes; Kamnik (a charming medieval town) is 30; Bled is 90.

How does the spa compare to bigger alpine hotels?

Small but real — wood-fired outdoor hot tub, sauna with view, plunge pool. It is intentional rather than commercial-sized.

Children?

Allowed but the 12-room scale and pace keep families rare. Couples and design travellers dominate.

When is the best time?

May through October. Winter is for skiers heading to Krvavec (25 minutes). Closed briefly mid-November and mid-March for maintenance.
