L’Auberge Carmel is the most consistently celebrated small luxury hotel on the Monterey Peninsula — a 20-room Relais & Châteaux inn in a 1929 Mediterranean-Revival mansion in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, four blocks from the beach and three from the village shopping district, owned by the Mirassou family (of the Mirassou wine dynasty) and operated as the rare combination of small-scale country inn and serious culinary destination.
