The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Masseria Le Carrube is the adults-only intimate alternative to the great Puglian luxury masserias — a small (32-room) 18th-century farmhouse on a 12-acre carob and olive estate on the road between Ostuni and the Adriatic, owned by the Melograni family and run as a quiet, design-conscious, no-children boutique. It is, by some distance, the most peaceful honeymoon address in the Itria Valley. The aesthetic is restrained Pugliese — white-washed stone walls, gnarled old olive beams, hand-thrown ceramic basins, linen sheets, and the original carob (carrubo) trees still standing in the gardens. The single saltwater pool sits in an old olive grove with the white town of Ostuni visible on the hill 4km away. The Trattoria Mangiamus (the on-site restaurant) is excellent at a modest level — burrata flown daily from Andria, orecchiette made by hand each morning, grilled total fish from the Adriatic 8km away, a small but precisely chosen Pugliese wine list. The spa is small (four treatment rooms, hammam, no thermal pools) but the treatments use locally-grown almond oil and the operation is unhurried. No beach club — the closest beach is a 15-minute drive — and no golf, no kids’ club, no buzz, no events. The honeymoon move is one of the Junior Suites in the original masseria farmhouse with a private terrace overlooking the olive groves, or one of the new Garden Suites at the back with a private outdoor shower. The defining moment: 9am breakfast in the carob garden, your own table under a 200-year-old carob tree, with fresh ricotta, marmalade made from the property’s own bergamot, and Pugliese honey from the on-site hives. Caveats: this is not a full-luxury experience — no Michelin restaurant, no thalasso, no big spa, no beach on-site; service is warm but not choreographed at the Borgo Egnazia or Aman level; and the immediate setting is rural Puglian rather than dramatic. But for honeymooners who specifically want adults-only quiet, real Pugliese intimacy, and a property they will mostly have to themselves outside August, Le Carrube is the clear choice.

Room Recommendation
Which room to book
A Junior Suite in the original masseria with private terrace overlooking the olive groves. The new Garden Suites at the back with private outdoor shower are the alternative. Avoid the standard rooms in the converted stables — lovely but smaller and without the private outdoor space.
