The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Masseria Torre Maizza is the Rocco Forte family’s Puglian masseria — a 16th-century watchtower-and-farmhouse complex on a 300-acre olive estate at Savelletri di Fasano, between Borgo Egnazia and Masseria San Domenico, reimagined by Olga Polizzi (Sir Rocco Forte’s sister and the group’s design director) in 2019 with the sun-drenched palette of yellows, terracottas, and indigo blues that has become the visual signature of the hotel. Forty rooms only — substantially more intimate than Borgo Egnazia’s 184 — across the converted main masseria, the surrounding limonaia and stables, and a small number of private garden suites. The five-acre formal Italian garden with its central infinity pool, the 9-hole pitch-and-putt golf course, the Maizza Spa (with hammam, indoor pool, and 8 treatment rooms), and the private beach club at Coccaro Beach Club (200m away, on the Adriatic) make this a full-amenity luxury masseria at half the scale of Borgo Egnazia. The food is excellent: Carosello on the panoramic terrace is the destination restaurant under chef Gennaro Russo (creative Puglian cooking, no Michelin star but at-star level), Trullo for casual lunches, and the Beach Club for grilled fish on the sand. The honeymoon move is one of the Pizzica Suites — the largest suite category, with private terrace, a private garden, and outdoor shower — or the Limonaia Suite in the converted lemon house with its 18th-century stone vault. The defining moment: aperitivo on the rooftop of the original 16th-century watchtower (which now houses a small library and a wood-fired pizza terrace) at sunset, with the olive groves stretching to the Adriatic. Caveats: still a resort with 40 keys rather than a 10-room boutique; the immediate area on the SS379 coastal road outside is not picturesque; and Rocco Forte service is excellent but more formal-corporate than the warm family welcome at smaller masserias. But for honeymooners who want full luxury amenity (spa, pool, beach club, golf, fine dining) at a more intimate 40-key scale than Borgo Egnazia, Torre Maizza is the clear pick.

Room Recommendation
Which room to book
A Pizzica Suite — private terrace, private garden, outdoor shower, the largest suite category. For something more historic, the Limonaia Suite in the converted lemon house with its 18th-century stone vault. Avoid the standard Tarantata rooms in the main building — lovely but smaller and without the private outdoor space that defines a Puglian honeymoon.
