The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Newstead Belmont Hills is the Paget Parish boutique hotel that quietly outpunches its star rating — a 60-suite hotel built into the hillside above Hamilton Harbour, with the best harbour-view infinity pool on Bermuda, an excellent golf course (the Belmont Hills 18-hole par-70 redesigned in 2003), and a private ferry dock that puts you in Hamilton in nine minutes by water. The hotel itself is purpose-built rather than heritage — modern condo-style suites with full kitchens, separate living and dining areas, large terraces overlooking the harbour, and floor-to-ceiling glass that frames the busiest waterway in Bermuda. The proposition for honeymooners is value and convenience: rooms are larger than at the Princess for less money, you can ferry into Hamilton for dinner in minutes, and golf is on the property. The honeymoon weakness is the lack of a beach — Newstead is a harbour-front hotel, not a beach hotel, and couples who want pink sand at their doorstep should look elsewhere. The other limitation is character: this is a modern hotel without the heritage of the Princess or the design intimacy of the Loren. For couples who want pool-and-harbour-and-golf rather than pink-sand, Newstead is the best value on Bermuda.

Best for couples who…
  • Prioritise spa & wellness
Skip if you…
  • Need a strictly adults-only resort
  • Want a direct beachfront
  • Prefer boutique & intimate properties

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $400–$2,200/night range

Harbourview Suite is the honeymoon entry — one-bedroom suite with separate living room, full kitchen, large balcony directly overlooking Hamilton Harbour and Hinson's Island, and a king bed positioned to wake up to the water. For the splurge, the Penthouse Suite is the top-floor one-bedroom with a wraparound terrace and the largest harbour view on the island.

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

Newstead has no beach — it is a harbour-front hotel; couples who want pink sand at their doorstep should choose The Loren or Rosewood.

!

Suites are modern and well-equipped but lack the heritage character of the Princess or Cambridge Beaches; this is a value-and-convenience hotel, not an architectural pilgrimage.

!

The 60-suite scale and condo-style format means the social atmosphere is quieter than Hamilton Princess — wonderful for honeymoon privacy, less so if you wanted the buzz of a resort.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Good for honeymooners?

Yes, with the caveat that you must want pool-and-harbour-and-city rather than pink-sand-on-the-doorstep. Newstead is excellent value for honeymoon couples who plan to ferry into Hamilton for dinner most nights and scooter to the beach by day.

Best time to visit?

May through October. June, July, August are peak swim weather and rates. Late September and October offer better value. Newstead is fully open year-round and the harbour position means it doesn't depend on perfect beach weather to feel right.

Book in advance?

Harbourview Suites book 2-3 months out for peak summer; the Penthouse Suite books 4-6 months ahead for honeymoon dates. Off-season is 3-4 weeks.

Adults-only?

No, family-friendly, but the condo-suite format and harbour orientation mean families self-select to beach hotels instead; couples are the dominant demographic.

Best room type?

Harbourview Suite — one-bedroom with full kitchen, separate living, balcony over the harbour. The Penthouse Suite for the splurge — wraparound terrace and the largest harbour view on the island.

How to get there?

L.F. Wade International (BDA) is a 25-minute taxi ($35-45) to Paget. The hotel arranges transfers. Direct flights from JFK (2h), Newark, Boston, Toronto, and London Gatwick. The private ferry dock connects to Hamilton in nine minutes.
