Juvet is the original landscape hotel — nine modernist glass cabins on stilts above the Valldøla river, designed so that the room essentially disappears and the wilderness takes over. Set design for Alex Garland's Ex Machina was filmed here, and the lava-stone sauna sits directly over the river. Book one of the original Jensen & Skodvin-designed glass cabins (rooms 1-7) — each has a different orientation and a unique view through floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides. Cabin 7 is the most cinematic, set lowest over the river. The newer Birdhouse rooms in the converted barn are warmer in winter but the glass cabins are the icon — book one for the full experience.

Arrival in Valldal
Fly into Ålesund Vigra (AES) and take the 2.5-hour drive to Juvet via the Tafjord and Valldal valleys. Check into your glass cabin, take a first sauna over the river and a quiet supper at the Burtigard farmhouse dining room.
Trollstigen pass
Drive the legendary Trollstigen serpentine pass (15 minutes from Juvet) with eleven hairpin bends and waterfalls on every side. Lunch at the visitor centre's viewing platform, return for a long afternoon sauna and supper of local lamb.
River swim & forest hike
Morning hike through the Reinheimen national park with one of Juvet's guides, ending in a brave plunge in the icy Valldøla. Afternoon reading in your cabin, an early evening sauna and a tasting menu drawing on the farm's own produce.
Geirangerfjord
Day trip to UNESCO Geirangerfjord (1.5 hours) for a small-boat fjord cruise past the Seven Sisters and Bridal Veil waterfalls. Back at Juvet by sunset, dinner in cabin if you prefer privacy.

Valldal is Norway's strawberry capital — visit a working farm in season for tastings. Optional splurge: a helicopter flightseeing tour over the Sunnmøre Alps and Geirangerfjord direct from the property.

Farewell breakfast
Slow farmhouse breakfast at Burtigard, a final coffee on your cabin's deck, then drive back to Ålesund. Many couples continue to Bergen by car (5 hours, scenic) or fly north to Tromsø.
