Belmond Maroma reopened in late 2023 after a complete two-year overhaul — and the result is one of the best beachfront luxury hotels in Latin America. The 72 rooms, suites and villas occupy a private 25-acre jungle estate on Maroma Beach (consistently ranked among the world's top ten beaches by Travel + Leisure for two decades). Belmond and architect Tara Bernerd retained the original 1970s Pueblo Maya whitewashed silhouettes and layered in a richer materials palette — hammered copper, soft linen, indigenous wood. The Casa Yima beach restaurant by chef Curtis Stone and the new Freya destination restaurant (one Michelin star by 2025 forecasts) have lifted the food to genuine destination level. The spa Aum is anchored by a Mayan cenote in the jungle. The beach is the most beautiful and sargassum-managed on the Riviera Maya — three protective barriers and a permanent rake team.
