The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

Cheval Blanc St-Tropez (formerly the Hôtel Cheval Blanc, before that the Résidence de la Pinède) is the LVMH-owned flagship of Saint-Tropez's hotel scene — a 30-key palace tucked into the only sandy beach inside the village proper, the Plage de la Bouillabaisse on the north side of the harbour. The genuine differentiator is location: while every other St-Tropez five-star is inland or out on the Pampelonne road, Cheval Blanc is on its own private cove with sand, a 200m walk along the seafront to the harbour, and a 10-minute walk to the Place des Lices. The interiors are pure LVMH polish — Vincent Darré-designed suites in coral, white, and natural linen, the iconic La Vague d'Or (three Michelin stars under chef Arnaud Donckele) on the terrace overlooking the bay, the Lily of the Valley sister property at Gigaro for couples who want both sides of the peninsula. The 30-room scale means the property feels boutique rather than palace — you recognise the other guests by day three, the concierge knows your beach club preference, and the bar staff have your aperitif ready. What you don't get at Cheval Blanc, which you do get at Cap-Ferrat or Eden-Roc, is the cinematic palace-hotel grandeur — this is a contemporary luxury boutique trading on intimacy, location, and the Donckele cooking. For couples whose honeymoon vision of Saint-Tropez is the yacht-walk on the harbour, the Pampelonne afternoons, and a three-Michelin-star evening dinner without leaving the property, Cheval Blanc is exactly the right address.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $1,800–$9,000/night range

The Suite Junior facing the bay (rooms 14-22 on the upper floors) is the canonical honeymoon room — 50m² with a balcony directly over the Plage de la Bouillabaisse and the harbour beyond. The Suite Cheval Blanc on the top floor is the signature suite with a wraparound terrace and outdoor bath. Avoid the village-facing rooms — the whole point of the address is the sea side, and the village views look at the back of other buildings.

Day by Day

Your 7-night honeymoon itinerary

1

Arrival and the Harbour Aperitif

Land at Nice (NCE) and take the 1h 30min private transfer along the coast to Saint-Tropez. Check in to your bay-view suite, an early aperitif on the terrace, a first walk along the harbour at sunset, and dinner at La Vague d'Or — the three-Michelin-star tasting menu by Arnaud Donckele.

2

Pampelonne Beach Club Day

Hotel chauffeur to Club 55 on Pampelonne for the full beach day — sunbeds at the front of the sand, the classic Provençal lunch (crudités, grilled fish, rosé) under the bamboo, and the long afternoon swimming. Return for cocktails at the Quai bar.

3

Old Town and Place des Lices

Slow morning, the Wednesday or Saturday Marché on the Place des Lices (the heart of the village), an afternoon at the Musée de l'Annonciade for Signac and Matisse, a late-afternoon swim from the hotel beach. Dinner at La Ponche in the old town.

4

Inland Wineries and Lunch

Drive 30 minutes inland to the rosé country — tastings at Château Minuty and Château La Mascaronne (the Sacha Lichine project), lunch at Les Caves du Roy de Ramatuelle. Sunset back at the hotel pool.

5

Private Boat to Cannes

Charter a private boat from the harbour for the day — along the coast to Cannes and the Îles de Lérins, lunch on board, swimming in the bays. Return for a sundown cocktail at the Quai.

6

Spa Morning and Quiet Beach

Long couples treatment at the Cheval Blanc Spa with Guerlain products, a late lunch at La Réserve à la Plage on Pampelonne, an afternoon swim, and a private candlelit dinner served on your terrace.

7

Slow Morning and Departure

Final breakfast on the bay terrace, a last walk on the harbour, and the transfer back to Nice (1h 30min).

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

Saint-Tropez in July and August is genuinely difficult — gridlock on the coast road, three-week restaurant lead times, and a hotel rate that doubles. May, June, September, and the first half of October are the right windows.

!

The Plage de la Bouillabaisse beach in front of the hotel is small (200m), and gets sun-loungers crowded by 10am. For real beach time, the chauffeur to Pampelonne is essential.

!

Cheval Blanc operates only the spring-summer season (mid-April to mid-October). Outside those dates the property is closed entirely.

Subject: Honeymoon inquiry — Cheval Blanc St-Tropez

Dear Cheval Blanc St-Tropez reservations team,

We are planning our honeymoon for [DATES] and would love to stay 5-7 nights. Could you please advise on availability for a Suite Junior Bay View (or the Suite Cheval Blanc if appropriate for the budget) and any honeymoon package inclusions?

A few questions:
1. Honeymoon turndown (champagne, in-room dinner option)?
2. La Vague d'Or tasting menu reservation for our most special evening?
3. Beach club bookings at Club 55 and La Réserve via concierge?
4. Private helicopter transfer from Nice (NCE)?

Thank you,

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Good for honeymooners?

Cheval Blanc is one of the most romantic addresses in Saint-Tropez — the in-village location, the private beach, the three-Michelin-star restaurant, the contemporary-luxury polish. The trade-off versus Eden-Roc or Cap-Ferrat is scale: this is a small boutique palace, not a grand belle époque estate.

Best time to visit?

Late May through late June and the whole of September. Saint-Tropez in July-August is busy to the point of frustration; in May the beach club season is just opening; in September the rosé is freshly poured and the sea is at its warmest.

Book in advance?

6-9 months ahead is the standard. The Suite Junior Bay View and the signature Suite Cheval Blanc book first. Direct via LVMH luxury collection or through a Virtuoso travel advisor for honeymoon upgrades.

Adults-only?

No — Cheval Blanc accepts children and has a kids' club, but the size of the property and the suite mix means families and couples mix well. Outside French school holidays the guest mix is predominantly couples.

Best room type?

Suite Junior with bay view (rooms 14-22). Top-floor Suite Cheval Blanc for the wraparound terrace honeymoon room. Skip the back-village-facing rooms unless budget is the hard constraint.

How to get there?

Nice (NCE) is 1h 30min by private transfer (€350-500). The faster option is helicopter from Nice helipad (20 minutes, €1,500-2,500). Direct from Paris by TGV to Saint-Raphaël (4h 15min) plus 30-minute taxi to St-Tropez.
