The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
La Réserve de Beaulieu is the under-rated palace of the eastern Riviera — a 1880 ochre-and-white Italianate villa on the Beaulieu seafront, just east of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula and 15 minutes from Monaco. Forty rooms and suites, a heated saltwater pool overhanging the Mediterranean, the one-Michelin-star Restaurant des Rois on the terrace, a private harbour with three docked boats available for hire, and the Spa Maria Galland Paris underground in vaulted Roman-style chambers. The location is the quiet trump card — Beaulieu is the most refined of the eastern-Riviera resort towns (Edith Wharton called it the most charming on the coast in 1908), with a working harbour, a tiny old town, and zero of the day-tripper crush that hits Nice and Eze. La Réserve sits in 1.5 acres of seafront gardens with direct private access to the rocks for swimming. The interiors are classic French palace — gilded ceilings, marble bathrooms, hand-painted murals, deep balconies on the upper floors. Value-wise, La Réserve trades at meaningful discount to Cap-Ferrat and Eden-Roc next door for what is essentially an equivalent quality of stay — for honeymoon couples who want the palace-hotel experience at a sensible-rather-than-eye-watering rate, this is the smartest address on the eastern coast. The catch is that the property is smaller, the restaurant has one star not three, and the private beach is rocks rather than sand — accept these and you have one of the best-value luxury honeymoon hotels in France.

Room Recommendation
Which room to book
The Junior Suite with sea-view balcony (rooms 30-50) is the canonical honeymoon room — large balconies directly above the saltwater pool and the Mediterranean. The Presidential Suite on the top floor is the celebrity-press room with a wraparound terrace. Avoid the rooms facing the inland (lower category) — they back onto Beaulieu town with no sea, and the whole point of La Réserve is the bay.

Day by Day
Your 7-night honeymoon itinerary
Arrival and the Seafront Pool
Land at Nice (NCE), 25-minute private transfer along the coast to Beaulieu. Welcome champagne on the terrace, a first afternoon at the seawater pool, and dinner at Restaurant des Rois on the seafront terrace as the lights of Cap-Ferrat come on across the bay.
Villa Ephrussi & Cap-Ferrat Walk
Walk 20 minutes around the bay to the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild on Cap-Ferrat — Béatrice de Rothschild's 1907 pink villa with nine themed gardens. Continue the Sentier du Littoral coastal path on Cap-Ferrat. Lunch at the Plage de Passable. Late-afternoon return for the spa.
Monaco Day
Drive 15 minutes east to Monaco for the full day — the Casino Square, the Jardin Japonais, the Oceanographic Museum, lunch at the Café de Paris, and an evening at the Hôtel de Paris for dinner at Louis XV (three Michelin stars). Late return by chauffeur.
Èze Village and the Sentier Nietzsche
Drive 10 minutes east to the perched village of Èze for the morning — the Jardin Exotique at the summit (427m above the sea), the medieval lanes, and lunch at the Château de la Chèvre d'Or. Walk the Sentier Nietzsche down to the sea in the afternoon (hotel pickup at the bottom).
Private Boat from the Harbour
Charter one of the hotel's private boats from the harbour for the day — east along the coast to Monaco and Menton, swimming in the bays, lunch on board. Return for a sundown aperitif on the terrace.
Saint-Paul-de-Vence and Maeght
Drive 45 minutes inland to Saint-Paul-de-Vence for the day — the Fondation Maeght modern art collection, lunch at La Colombe d'Or, an afternoon walking the village ramparts. Late-afternoon spa at La Réserve.
Slow Morning and Departure
Final breakfast on the terrace, a last swim from the rocks, and the 25-minute transfer to Nice airport.
Honest Assessment
What to know before you book
La Réserve has 40 rooms which means service is intimate but also that the pool fills up by 11am in peak season. Reserve loungers in advance.
The beach is rocky — there is no sand at La Réserve. Swimming is from the rocks via the seawater pool deck or from the small dock by the harbour.
Restaurant des Rois is one Michelin star not three — wonderful but not a Louis XV experience. For three-star, the drive to Monaco is the play.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Good for honeymooners?
Among the most under-rated honeymoon hotels in France — palace-hotel quality at meaningful discount to Cap-Ferrat next door, in the most refined of the eastern Riviera towns. The trade-off is one-star not three-star dining, and rocks not sand at the beach.
Best time to visit?
Late May through late June and the whole of September. The shoulder months at La Réserve are particularly excellent because the smaller scale of the property amplifies the quiet of the off-peak Riviera.
Book in advance?
4-6 months ahead is the standard for May-October. The Junior Suite Sea View rooms book first; the Presidential Suite has limited availability. Direct booking via the hotel is preferred.
Adults-only?
No — La Réserve accepts children but the property scale and the quiet refinement of the Beaulieu setting means the guest mix is overwhelmingly couples and older repeats.
Best room type?
Junior Suite Sea View on the upper floors (rooms 30-50). Presidential Suite for the maximum honeymoon room. Skip the lower-category inland-view rooms.
How to get there?
Nice (NCE) is 25 minutes by private transfer (€130-180). Beaulieu has its own SNCF station — the regional train along the coast from Nice is 10 minutes and €4. Helicopter from Nice helipad is 7 minutes (€1,500).
