Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel

The Verdict

Worth it for your honeymoon?

The Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat is the belle époque palace of the Côte d'Azur — a 1908 grande dame on the leafy western tip of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula, a 17-acre pine-shaded estate that descends through formal gardens to a private rocky beach and the most beautiful seawater Olympic pool on the French Riviera. Four Seasons took over operations in 2015 and has spent the decade since polishing what was already one of the most respected addresses on the coast: 73 rooms and suites in the main palace and the cliff-side Villa Rose-Pierre annex, the one-Michelin-star Le Cap restaurant on the seafront terrace, La Véranda for breakfast and informal lunches, the Riviera-perfect L'Orangerie spa, and the funicular that drops you 70m down through the pines to the sea. What sets the Cap-Ferrat apart from the Eden-Roc on the next headland is the warmth — Eden-Roc is cooler, more famous, more glamorous-cinema; Cap-Ferrat is gentler, more family-comfortable, more wedding-anniversary than wedding-photo. The Junior Suite Sea View on the upper floors with a 270° wraparound balcony over the bay is the single most romantic room category we know on the Riviera. The Villa Rose-Pierre, perched on the cliff with a private heated pool, is the honeymoon villa that has hosted half the heads of state in Europe. Mornings begin with breakfast on a terrace that gives directly onto the sea; afternoons collapse into the funicular and the seawater pool; evenings stretch into a long sundowner on the upper terrace as the lights of Beaulieu and Villefranche come on across the bay. This is the Riviera doing exactly what it has always done best — quiet, palace-grade, almost embarrassingly civilised luxury.

Room Recommendation

Which room to book

Expert Pick
from $1,500–$8,500/night range

The Junior Suite Sea View is the canonical honeymoon room — 65m² with a wraparound terrace facing the bay of Villefranche, a king bed framed by the view, and a marble bathroom with a soaking tub. For maximum drama and budget, Villa Rose-Pierre is a standalone three-bedroom cliff villa with a heated pool, gardens, and the absolute privacy that head-of-state guests require. The Deluxe Sea View doubles are the value tier with the same view but smaller terraces. Avoid the garden-view rooms in the wings — the whole point of the Grand-Hôtel is the sea.

Day by Day

Your 7-night honeymoon itinerary

1

Arrival and the Funicular Sea

Land at Nice (NCE) and take the 30-minute private transfer to Cap-Ferrat. Settle into your sea-view suite; the welcome champagne is from the maison Charles Heidsieck. Take the funicular down to the seawater pool and the rocky beach for a first swim. Dinner on the Le Cap terrace as the bay lights come on.

2

Cap-Ferrat Coastal Walk

The 11km Sentier du Littoral circles the entire Cap-Ferrat peninsula along the rocks. Walk the southern half (4km, 1h 30min) from Plage de Passable to Pointe St-Hospice and back through the village of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat for lunch on the harbour. Afternoon spa treatment at L'Orangerie.

3

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

A 10-minute walk up the peninsula to the Villa Ephrussi — Béatrice de Rothschild's 1907 pink palace with nine themed gardens arranged like a ship's deck. The most extraordinary private gardens on the coast. Lunch on the villa's terrace overlooking the bay. Afternoon back at the seawater pool.

4

Saint-Paul-de-Vence & Fondation Maeght

Drive 45 minutes inland to Saint-Paul-de-Vence — the perched medieval village, the Fondation Maeght modern art collection (Miró sculptures, Chagall mosaics, Giacometti courtyard), and lunch at La Colombe d'Or where Picasso paid his bills in paintings. Late afternoon return for sunset on the terrace.

5

Monaco Evening

Drive 25 minutes east to Monaco for the afternoon — the Casino square, the Jardin Japonais, and the Cathédrale de Monaco. Dinner at Louis XV (three Michelin stars) at the Hôtel de Paris on Casino Square. A turn at the Casino de Monte-Carlo afterward (passport required). Late return by chauffeur.

6

Private Boat Day

Charter a private skippered boat from Beaulieu harbour for the day — a leisurely cruise along the coast to the Îles de Lérins off Cannes, swimming in the bays around Cap d'Antibes, lunch on board. The classic Riviera day, away from the road traffic.

7

Slow Morning and Departure

Final breakfast on the terrace, a last swim from the rocks, and the 30-minute transfer to Nice airport. Most couples extend with two nights in Saint-Tropez for the beach club contrast.

Honest Assessment

What to know before you book

!

The Grand-Hôtel is not adults-only — Four Seasons accepts families and the kids' club is well-run, so during French school holidays the family share rises. Outside school holidays the guest mix is overwhelmingly couples.

!

The beach is rocky (Cap-Ferrat coast — no sand anywhere) and the access from the seawater pool requires a few minutes' walk over slippery rocks. Sand-beach lovers should head to Pampelonne for a day.

!

The funicular has been known to break down — the only alternative is a steep 5-minute walk up through the pines. Genuinely fine, but worth knowing if mobility is limited.

Dear Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat reservations team,

We are planning our honeymoon for [DATES] and would love to stay 5-7 nights. Could you please advise on availability for a Junior Suite Sea View (or the Villa Rose-Pierre if appropriate for the budget) and any honeymoon package inclusions?

A few questions:
1. Honeymoon turndown (champagne, in-room romantic dinner option)?
2. Couples treatment availability at L'Orangerie?
3. Private boat charter from Beaulieu through the concierge?
4. Private transfer from Nice (NCE)?

Thank you,

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Good for honeymooners?

Among the top three honeymoon hotels on the Côte d'Azur — the palace setting, the Cap-Ferrat peninsula's leafy peace, the seawater pool and private beach, and Four Seasons' quietly precise service make it the warmest of the Riviera flagships.

Best time to visit?

Mid-May to late June and the whole of September are ideal — warm, swimmable sea, full beach-club season, civilised crowds. Avoid the Cannes Film Festival week (mid-May) and the late-July through August school holiday peak.

Book in advance?

Junior Suites Sea View and the Villa Rose-Pierre book 9-12 months ahead for May-October. The standard Deluxe Sea View opens up at 6 months but with limited choice. Direct booking via Four Seasons preferred — honeymoon package gets a suite upgrade subject to availability.

Adults-only?

No. Four Seasons family-friendly model with kids' club. Outside French school holidays (Easter, July-August, late October) the guest mix is overwhelmingly couples and the property feels adult.

Best room type?

Junior Suite Sea View for the canonical honeymoon experience. Villa Rose-Pierre for the maximum privacy honeymoon. Deluxe Sea View for the value tier. The corner Junior Suites on the top floor (610, 510) have the best balconies.

How to get there?

Nice (NCE) is 30 minutes by private transfer (€150-200). The hotel arranges transfers directly. TGV from Paris to Nice is 5h 30min. Cap-Ferrat is also accessible by helicopter — 7 minutes from Nice — for the luxury arrival.
